That's the old push in fuses. Well not that old really  - the really old ones are porcelain.  Do you know how to repair them and do you have some fuse wire in various gauges?

The old metal coat hangers used to be more than adequate.  Just make sure you wear marigolds when you shove them into place.

Nails were better - they came ready cut. Actually I must have had them because I can remember doing the job and I recognise the more modern ones.

I wondered how easy it is to get fuse wire now. I know Woolworth used to sell it - same counter they sold the light bulbs they tested before you took them away. None in Toolstation but Amazon still do



Notice the Health and Safety advice girls (obviously us men don't read instructions).

I'd say "switch off before sticking your hand in the fuse box"  was fairly sound advice.
