Quote from: Raven on September 11, 2025, 11:47:20 AMOkay I'm going to say it, I did warn you it was a bad idea. There you can slap me now. :busted:  Anyway if it's not gone in time then get your son or someone with a car to tow it out onto the road in front of his house. It wiil either be collected quickly or someone will report it then he's in trouble.
Am I being bad, some would say yes but, he's broken your agreement and he needs to face the consequences.
I have a horrible feeling you are right, Raven.

Another neighbour has a big truck,  that would tow it if it he would be prepared to do it for me.
Perhaps a stupid question,  but would it tow if the breaks were on?  How would we steer it to park in the kerb outside his house?

Just had a look on the government website to check a reg.plate, and it said it is not taxed, or MOT'd,  but it has one of those SORN notices.  If I towed it onto the road,  would I be the one in trouble for dumping an untaxed vehicle on the highway??

Looks like the buggers have gone away now!  Maybe for the weekend?

Quote from: klondike on September 11, 2025, 02:42:06 PMI didn't. If he hadn't had it scrapped while it was serving as a garden ornament why would he be in any rush to do so now when it is certainly no longer a problem to him.
This is going to cause ill feeling for sure. Out on the road is the way forward. Followed by here if it stays there - https://www.gov.uk/report-untaxed-vehicle

We got chancers around here leaving cars in the limited parking with For Sale signs and a mobile number in the window. I always check them here - https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ Any transgression they get dobbed in. They stopped appearing shortly after I did that. Coincidence? Maybe but it cost me nothing.
Exactly the same thought came to my mind as well, Klondie.

If it comes to it though,  I wouldn't have thought I could report an untaxed vehicle if it is off- road,  can I?

I really, really didn't want it to come to this.  I think I have been a gullible fool.  :worried:

Funny you should say that Alex,  because I tried to talk to his Mother yesterday,  but they are foreign,  and she didn't seem able to talk English,  so called her son outside.
When he came,  I gave him the scrap yard's address and phone number all written down for him.  I told him they were prepared to come either yesterday,  or today if he rang up.

Nothing has happened, and the wreck's still here.
Why are some people so horrid.  Why do they betray our trust?  I didn't deserve this.

Scrumpy

Mups.. I'm sorry to say this but you are a soft touch sweetheart..
If neighbours don't want crap in their front yard why the hell do you want it in yours.. !!!
You say the neighbour didn't understand what you were saying.. That old trick eh!!!
I would get someone to tow it onto the road near their drive..  Not your responsibility once it's in the road..
I wouldn't go as far as reporting it.. Just wipe your hands of it..
Raven got it right..
You are too bloody nice..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Mups

Scrumpy,  thank you for your thoughts, bless ya.

I am going to talk to the scrap yard again tomorrow,  they may have come across this before in their line of business.    Failing that, if it hasn't gone this weekend,  I will talk to the Police.

I have a feeling that the Cops won't want to know.  They will say I gave him permission, so there is nothing they can do.
Also,  I want to know if I will be liable if I dump an untaxed vehicle on the road.   Don't forget the brakes will be on, so it won't be easy to move,  plus the doors are locked so I wouldn't even be able to steer it safely.

Another neighbour with a big truck has just told me he doesn't want to tow it incase he is liable too!

The owner has got until Sunday to shift it, as I said in the beginning for no more than 10 days,  but if they have gone away . .   then what?     I need a Plan B  for if it's not gone this weekend.

Alex

You can't do anything if they've gone away Mups.

Dextrous63

I'd suggest burning his house down, but merely mentioning that could lead to a 2+ year prison sentence, so I won't.

Scrumpy

Plan B...
Knock very hard on their door as soon as they get back home... Make it clear that they understand what you are saying.. Even if you have to use your hands/ arms/ fingers to do so..
Why the hell are you phoning the scrap yard.. It's not your scrap.. !!!
Don't get stuck with any bills..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Hmmmmm, If they are away how about getting it put back in his garden where it came from, are you sure the brakes are on? Is it locked?
Do you need paperwork if you surrender a car to a scrap yard? I don't know but some of the guys might.
Personally I'd just phone a scrappy and get them to lift it from your drive, might even get cash in hand. If he comes calling admit nothing, you got up, it was gone you assumed he'd had it removed. :halo:
Also, won't the sorn papers be for his address, not yours.

Plan B, Travellers would have no quarms in lifting it they would sell it to where it couldn't be traced.

Yes.
I've pushed a car that was blocking me in bumper to bumper - no harm done either. Towing would be no problem.

Why bother how well it is parked?

Not if it is on your property. Anyway how could anybody prove anything.  Perhaps somebody tried to steal it.

Not if it is on your driveway you can't

Finally Raven has some very good ideas there.

As I said in an earlier post this will lead to ill will but I don't see that you have any choice.

Dextrous63

So sorry to hear that things really have gone south on this Mups.

No idea what you can do other than to get the keys off him ("in case of emergencies") and dump it back on his drive.

1. Klondie says -   Why bother how well it is parked?

Because  I get a lot of school traffic twice a day here,  and I wouldn't want to cause an accident.
Neither would I want the Cops saying I have fly-tipped.

2. K. says -  As I said in an earlier post this will lead to ill will but I don't see that you have any choice.

Yes,  unfortunately I can see that coming true, too.

Don't get stuck with any bills..

I just wondered if the scrap yard might know any legal loopholes, or have any sort of advice?

Wouldn't it be wonderful if they told me he has already phoned them  . . .  (day dreaming again).

klondike

The police aren't going to be interested as it is essentially a civil matter. If it's on your driveway then you'll be parked in the road. Far better that the infiltrator is parked in the road. If it is the authorities will tow and scrap it. Unfortunately the owner is likely to get a bill for that but the agreement with you seems to have been broken so tough.

The problem is only how to get it off your driveway. If this were me I'd break a window, get in, take off the handbrake, take it out of gear and if necessary push it. Ideally you need help with that of course.

Yes  I would need the legit paperwork Raven,  else the scrap yard could be accused of stealing, couldn't they.
Also,  too many neighbours with curtains twitching to deny all knowledge of it.

I also wouldn't want to get the Travellers involved, thanks.

Maybe they have only gone away for a few days,  I'll have to wait and see.  But if they have gone for a long time I will be really, really mad.

Thanks for all your input,  Klondie,  and everyone else who has tried to help. x
I can't think of it any more tonight,  it's getting me down worrying.
I will see if anything happens over the weekend.

GrannyMac

Some people are so selfish, try not to worry too much Mups. Maybe talk to your neighbour with the truck, see what he thinks.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

Scrumpy

Mups... poor you...

BUT IT IS NOT YOUR PROBLEM...
If I lived nearer I'd help put it in the street.. And I know of a few on here would do the same..
Klondike would.. and so would Alex..
DON'T PAY FOR ANYTHING...It is not down to you..

Shoulda.. Woulda.. Coulda... comes to mind..

There are some horrible people out there.. who take the piss out of those with a big heart..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..
