It's true we'll all die but how comfortable those final years are depends a lot on looking after our bodies.

I'm not sure what pushed me towards it but it could well have been catching a side view of myself reflected in a shop window and seeing just how big my belly had got.

That pushed me into stopping the tinnies in the evening and resisting my sweet tooth. I'd started walking places instead of driving to them too.

I went to the doctor as I'd  started getting a nasty pain in my leg that came at random lasted half an hour or so then stopped as quickly as it arrived. It seemed to me obvious that it was a trapped nerve of some sort as no muscle pain just stops and I wanted to see a physio.

By the time I got the physio appointment the pain had fixed itself. He did tell me what he thought had caused it though which I noted down as my lateral cutaneous femoral nerve which can give a number of symptoms including what I described.

As well as the physio the doctor enrolled me with a health and fitness advisor who picked up on my desire to lose some weight. He subtly steered me into using the MyFinessPal app to track food intake. That is an eye opener and a real chore to stick with but I did. In fact a bit too far as you don't just lose fat you lose muscle too and the advisor prescribed me some cheap gym membership.

I recently stopped logging my intake with the app because I don't need to. I know how much and what I should eat and no longer need it. I do need to put back on a couple of pounds but of muscle not fat which takes effort to but I think I can get there.

I feel a lot better for it all. Taking that route certainly won't suit everyone though I'm sure.

Crikey klondy, that's one hell of a busy Saturday you've had.  I trust that you've destressed by getting a takeaway and a crate of ale?

Mups

Well done Klondie.   It sounds like you have done really well.
Good on you for sticking at it,  I am sure you will benefit.

Well done Klondike...
Losing weight, going to the gym, swimming and walking are easy to talk about but bloody difficult to get going for some..
Much easier if we have someone to go with and encourage us..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Thanks. I wasn't looking for praise just pointing out that what how we behave now has effects as we get even older or at least I think it does. Until no I'd spent a life avoiding exercise and any fat free stuff, Scoffing crisps and biscuits was more my thing. Noticing my waistline was what brought about the change and that health and fitness advisor who appeared at just the right time or I may have just reverted to my norm.

Mac has said she shed a load of weight and maybe some others I don't recall.

Don't worry about losing weight any of you, for I am gathering it all up and putting it into storage around my midriffs.

There is a bottle of Riesling a bottle of Pinot and a bottle of lager in the fridge, I am undecided, does pork scratchings go with a Pinot?

Pork scratchings go with anything. They are Satan's temptation sent to try poor souls like me.

I'm of the same thought.  The way I look at it, should I ever be stranded on a desert island (as long as it has some water!), I'll probably live longer than the skinny ones.

Go shopping after a meal not when you are hungry.

If i had scratchings crisps or any similar bagged treat I'd eat it all regardless of size
To avoid that I just don't buy them anymore
