.... when you don't build any new reservoirs despite welcoming millions of migrants and doing nothing to stop illegals....

I checked the date - it isn't April 1st

UK Urges Public to Delete Old Emails To Save Water Use in Data Centres Amid Drought

The British government has urged people to "play their part" and delete old emails in a bid to lower internet server water usage amid drought conditions even as water companies nationwide lose 660 million gallons of water a day to leaks.

Following a meeting of the UK's National Drought Group, the government's Environment Agency has urged the public to begin mass deleting old emails and cloud photos.

While individual users clearing their inboxes or scrapping old photographs would likely have minimal impact, the agency claimed that a widespread effort could reduce the amount of water used to cool internet servers.

The government has said that despite recent rainfall, five areas of the country are currently in drought and a further six are in near-drought conditions as Britain has experienced the driest six months on record since 1976.

There's a hosepipe ban here!

Fortunately I don't keep many old emails  :waiting:
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

I'm sending wads of cash directly to any water company shareholders I can locate, since this is apparently how to improve our water waste/treatment and supply.  I'm hoping that it'll fast track matters.

I'm not overly strict as they all get stored by google and sometimes they are handy to find when you bought something. I do occasionally have a bit of a purge of them. They don't take vast amounts of space - what does take space is photos and videos especially and the young these days get withdrawal symptoms if they can't manage 20 selfies an hour.

I too have the occasional purge.  But anything I'm not sure about is moved into one of the several folders within yahoo mail itself

I must say it sounds like nonsense to me. My car's still got the same water in it after 10 years of cooling the engine, I don't imaging a data centre would pour it away because it's warm. My own experience of computer facilities is that they use air conditioning units, i.e. refrigerators, in the rooms, and only fans in the cabinets, not water.

Here's a water related one for you to ponder over.  Near the Trafford centre there will soon be a huge covered water park (several swimming pools with I assume the tubes and other playful rides).  Complaints that have been submitted have largely involved the concern that it will use water which is in short supply.  There seems to be some confusion and some people think the place is going to divert water from either the Manchester Ship Canal or adjacent Bridgewater Canal and thus have a flowing canal water filling the pools.

Some people also thing that this will be a waste of council money, despite the fact that it is solely funded privately and will generate income and hence jobs.

Why are some people so oblivious to the bleeding obvious??

More water related....  My neighbours over the fence at the bottom of my garden have now got a swimming pool which must be fairly large as I hear Dad in it too.   I loved to sit out in the garden early evenings, sometimes with my book but now, as much as I enjoy children's laughter it's impossible to sit in peace and it goes on well past 9pm.

OK a grumpy old cow I may be, but bring on the rain (or school) when I can then sit under my brolly in peace and QUIET

You miserable sod.  Put some headphones on.

I'd be exactly the same Alex.  :busted:

Put some loud pop music on, but place your speakers outside.
If the kids like it, play some loud organ music.  (I'm one of the few people who like it!)

I never even considered whether data centres might use water but I'm pretty sure that Ashy is correct making this even more ludicrous than it seemed at first glance.

It did inspire me to once again report the leaking hydrant I did months ago as even a myopic water board bloke should be able to spot the stream now running from it into the gutter. There was a link in the Anglian Water newsletter about saving water. They didn't mention emails just boring crap like watering your garden with washing up water and collecting the cold run off when you start a shower. Neither of which are likely to be done often I suspect.

S'pose I could try the bagpipes, I like them not sure kids would though.    They must have gone out for the day - all quiet here tonight.
