I have just been messing about looking up where I used to live in childhood and teens etc,  and seeing how they have changed,  or even if my old house was still there and what it looks like today.

Have you ever looked up your old addresses from childhood?  It didn't half bring back memories.

Yes. Looked at several on Google Earth.  Actually visited the flats where I grew up a couple of years ago, with my daughter.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

And this is where I lived as a child

All derelict in that pic.

My family come from Bethnal Green and Hampshire.. way back..

The big house I grew up in Reigate Surrey is now three private dwellings..
Many of the houses in the area are now many smaller properties.. Nothing like it was when I was young..

Our house in Australia is no more... It is now a busy road junction..
When I was there it was very quiet.. We had a Drive-in Movie just up the road.. All gone..
There is property EVERYWHERE..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

just after the war we lived with my paternal grandfather for a couple of years. He ran a pub, the Windsor Castle, Long gone and replaced by a block of flats. This was Cooper Road, and the adjoining road was Rolls Road!

I tried Google Earth, Granny,  but I preferred Street View because I see more detail -  even door numbers.

Maybe I am doing it wrong,  but on G.E. I could only see a sort of mass ariel view of an area,  not individual houses?

Mups, Make sure your on satellite map not just map, and tick everything to be shown. Then it should be clear as day and you can zoom right in or drop into street view.

Thank you Raven.      I didn't know you had to do all that!    My fault.

I still think the other one's easier though,  all you do is type the address you want to look at, and its done.

It must be handy for house hunters wanting to view a prospective property before travelling a long way to view something.

The first one is not our croft on Mull, but it's very like it. I don't actually have any pics of it.
2nd one is my grandparents house in Perth, the dower house to Balhousie castle. We lived there after we came to the mainland.
3rd one is my sister and I running after gramps in the grounds of the place.
4th is my house on Perth.
5th is from the early 1900s, old farm cottage at the back of my house, you can see my house at the back on the right, it's an old farm cottage from the Pitheavlis Castle estate. Castle's still there is just round the corner from where I live.

Lovely clear pictures, Raven.

The old black and white one must be a lovely memory for you.

The house in the second one reminds me of ones we see on TV in the period dramas, like Catherine Cookson era.

And the last one -  was it a farm cottage?    It looks like it is desperate for some TLC.
I wonder if it still exists?  It could be someone's little dream home even.

Raven

No it was pulled down long time ago, that's part of a street full of houses now. To be quite honest I'm surprised mine is still standing it's very old now. It was one of 6 farm workers cottages tied to the estate, all 6 are in good nick too..
It was a big house no2, 6 bedrooms, massive drawing room and kitchen, big wide curved stair case with bannisters just crying to be slid down. Lol.

Alex

Great photos Raven, your grandparents house is lovely  :upvote:
