I'm trying to decide on wallpaper for the chimney breast in my sitting room and I was gob smacked at the price nowadays.   My son thinks it's old fashioned to have wallpaper, but I like a feature wall !    Do you think I'm being old fashioned ?

I still have a feature wall in my own house in Perth, but not up here. Several of my friends including my daughter also have one. I don't think it's old fashioned it's a choice, if you like it go for it.

Every paper I like is about £75 - £80 a roll !   sod that....

I have wallpaper in the downstairs toilet.. I put it up a few years back..
I wouldn't change it for a painted wall.. never..
Some wallpaper can look stunning .. I have an alcove in the living room.. it would look brilliant with the right wallpaper....

It certainly isn't old fashioned.. It's just expensive...
Go for it Alex.. It will last for years.. and give you pleasure..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Aren't there any local artists who could paint the wall and make it unique.  Might actually be cheaper and nicer than wallpaper.

oooooo yes! A mural, what a great idea💡

What???      I would be out of that shop in minutes!

Look around, Alex.    That seems an incredibly silly price to me.

And I see nothing wrong with a feature fireplace wall whatsoever.  It can look really nice. I don't give a damn what's fahionable.  You have what you like, gal.      :upvote:

The wallpapers were on line Mups. I haven't looked in any shops yet, B & Q will be cheaper I think.

I just stuck wallpaper into google and it comes up with a raft of different paces selling the stuff. You can glance through them for any names showing reasonable looking prices than drill in to what styles they have. It's possible B&Q will turn out cheapest but I'll be surprised if they do. I've bought very little from them in years now.

Alex, if I were you I'd go for wood chip painted with white emulsion.  Make it a feature by sticking up some brass plates and ornaments.  This will make your house highly desirable for purchase by someone from a certain ethnic background.

Don't forget to get some flying ducks. Set of three different sizes.

Ooh,  I've come over all nostalgic now.
I remember my Nan & Grandad having those ducks on their wall.

They were on Hilda Ogden's wall in Corrie. We saw some and bought them for a laugh. They are on the wall of the dining area now...
