Yuk !  Mint growing in a pot can keep them away, but they do seem to be getting more hard faced !

Hate them. A works colleague died from a wasp sting, and Veronica nearly did - only saved by an adrenaline injection - GP reached her just in time.

My granddaughter Hattie was stung by a wasp on her mouth on Monday..
Her top lip swelled up.. She was fine after a couple of days..
She was out with her mates and she drank from a can... The wasp was also having a drink..
Her lips looked like those of Katie Price..

It can be dangerous.. I'm sure I read that a (celebrity) died from a wasp sting that entered his mouth and stung the insides of his mouth/throat...
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I have been stung by a wasp only once, at least in my adult life.  Luckily it was under my shoulder and didn't cause any real danger, well, except that I was on the conservatory roof at the time.  A sting in the mouth or throat could be really dangerous.

This is certainly true with animals, JB,  so I assume it is the same with humans?    I despise Wasps.

The throat can swell and block off their airways.   Very dangerous.   Often caused by dogs snapping at a wasp and getting bit in the mouth, or swallowing it.

With humans,  as has already been said,  the hateful little blighters often enter cans of drink so I think I would prefer to empty the drink into a glass so I could see what was going on.

Just seen this as well.
Poor little soul.  What an agonizing way to go.

Just goes to show how evil these critters can be.

Quote:

"A two-year-old boy tragically lost his life after being attacked by a swarm of aggressive wasps while playing with friends in northeastern Thailand.
The toddler, Narathip, also known as Akhin, was cycling with other children near an old rice mill when they were suddenly set upon by the territorial insects in Nakhon Ratchasima on Saturday. While the other kids managed to escape, Narathip was unable to make it too far due to his short legs and tumbled from his bike as the wasps relentlessly attacked him.

Stung behind my knee, I sat on a bench and a wasp was underneath it.  Fortunately it wasn't too bad. When I sit in the garden, I burn a citronella candle, it keeps them away.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

Don't recall every having been stung which probably means I haven't. I don't think waving arms around and the like drives them off and they tend to just clear off if ignored. Maybe they don't like my smell as I either don't attract or don't react to any biting insects.

I think about the only predator they've got,  other than us,  is the Hornet.    Hornets will attack and kill Wasps.
I hope I never, ever get stung by one of those as they are bigger than Wasps, so carry even more venom.    I believe they can be quite dangerous.

Mind you,  I react to some gnat bites,  my Mum was the same,   so I sure wouldn't  want to risk a hornet!

Ages ago when I used to do a morning and evening walk with my Sheepies I discovered that the flying beasties hated cigarette smoke, on the evening walks in the woods we were smothered in midges and a few buzzing things. A pal told me to light up a cigarette when I sat down for a breather, I tried it and it worked, nothing came near, but that was in the days cigarettes were not expensive. Then I started spending so much time up north and I walked up river or on the beach in the evenings.

Mosquitos make a bee line for me, so far I haven't been stung by a wasp (fingers crossed)

We had a fright years ago before I left home. Shelia had a two layer nightie and a hornet got between the two layers. Thankfully I was able to squash it without it stinging her. Pure luck
