"French economy is in crisis, the UK only needed to put tariffs on wine, cheese and champagne until the boats stopped. French farmers would have put an end to the boats"

Now there's a thought....,.

And look which group would  be paying the bulk of the tariffs.

Win win win  :upvote:

Shame we can't of course.

If MPs and those that defend and laud over the arrival of a boat load of irregulars were to receive a personal "fine" (or fee😉) to cover the cost of their failings/desires, then I suspect things would rapidly be resolved.

After all, we all have the joys of coughing up Fixed Penalties for parking inappropriately, or daring to dip into a bus lane etc.

I see no reason why those who wish to flaunt the rules for the common good don't pay a penalty for doing so.

All of these ideas would undoubtedly work.  They could certainly be put in place if we had the will to do so.
Two things are preventing them, though: the ECHR and the Labour government.
Those two bodies would apparently prefer the UK to sink into the Third World, unfortunately.  I sometimes wonder just how low things could go before 2029.

I think the only thing stopping us putting tariffs on French produce to get their farmers to act in our behalf is the trade deal with have with the EU.

Realistically the only way to stop the illegals is to remove the pull factors. The only way to reduce the legals is to change government which, as it happens, is the only way to get rid of the pull factor too.

If it doesn't happen then I think we will eventually see some serious public unrest as the current abysmal public services and housing problems continue their inevitable decline.

I drink New Zealand wine and eat Somerset Brie.
Champagne is ok but overrated .

I was interested to hear that in Kent (perhaps elsewhere too?) illegal immigrants, rather than incurring fines, are being given free driving lessons and free tests!  Why?
These are people not only here illegally, but also supposedly likely to be kicked out of the country - hopefully.

Maybe we're training them up so that they can drive minibuses and coaches back to where they came from so they can pick up families and friends and bring them back here free of charge (for them, anyway).  This would thus "smash the gangs" since gangs would become obsolete.

Nothing would surprise me.

A perfectly logical and helpful idea.  I'm sure TwoTier would jump at the chance.

I saw that somebody who got home and found a stowaway hiding somewhere under bike covers or some such on their campervan called the police.  They got a £500 fine for bringing one in. The lesson is clear if you find one hiding - just ignore them because if you do the right thing it will cost you £500.

I read that the driving lessons are for immigrants who have been given refugee status, so no longer illegal.  However, I thought Local authorities were teetering on the verge of bankruptcy! I would not be happy paying council tax there.

Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

If they put them up by the sort of amounts I've seen mooted by skirting around the 5% cap few are going to be happy anywhere.

I'm sure that the police have been told to do nothing to the illegal invaders, but to deal with us white British if we even mention them in 'hurty words'.
Let's face it, this country has had it at least for the next four years and a lot can happen in four years.
