At last someone has said how it is.. and actually got a result in doing so...
Peace talks.. No more foreign aid..

I know little of politics but even I was getting fed up with the two countries  ruled by two stubborn leaders fighting each other .Costing the tax payer billions ...
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Zalenski had only two options. Fight Russia or let Russia take over the country. Had they done so with no comebacks the rest of eastern Europe would have followed.

The only way that standards of international law can be maintained is by Russia gaining nothing from it's invasion of a sovereign state. So far it looks like that won't be achieved so emboldening others such as China and Iran.

There won't be peace coming. What will be coming unless Russia makes no gains is a shit show that will cost far more than ensuring Ukraine defeat Russia.

Exactly.  I think it is time that a deal was done.  Russia would keep the south-eastern provinces of Ukraine which are predominantly Russian people.  As for Crimea, Putin will certainly want to keep that, but if Trump is handling the talks, I think he should demand that Crimea be handed back to Ukraine.  After all, the Russians dare not used Crimea as a naval base now.

If and when this war is over, Ukraine should immediately apply to join NATO.  Assuming that he is accepted (primarily by America), I think his country will be safe.

My thoughts have always been that Russia (leader that is, not the people) is the lesser of two evils.

I assume you mean Trump?

I agree that Trump is outspoken and sometimes overbearing.
But how many would prefer to have Biden?

I heard talk about his supporters want him in for a third time too.
By then he will be about as old as Biden was.

Personally, I don't think they should be allowed to hold such a highly responsible job in their 80's, there should be an age limit.   Same for some of these old codgers you see as Judges.

They should have a retirement age because of the importance of their work.
A whole nation's safety could be at stake if they forget things and make mistakes.

We are all entitled to our own analysis but in my humble opinion the Crimea is as  Russian as anywhere, and the Russian government and the people of Crimea will want it to stay Russian, so it will. Krushchev (himself a Ukrainian) got up one morning in 1956 and gave it to Ukraine to administer, which may even have made sense in the Soviet era when there was little difference between one state and another. Russia will also keep the eastern and southern areas where the Russian people live in the main and have done since the Czarist empire.

That will leave a much smaller and less troublesome state of Ukraine, assuming that Poland and Hungary don't divide it between themselves, which would incidentally bring in NATO and the european union.

Ruthio I meant Russia and China, we have far more to fear from China imho.

klondike

Certainly possible.

We haven't seen the Chinese fighting a modern army so really don't know how well they'd do.

We have seen the Russians fighting a basically Soviet era army that have had some western weapons and training and they have spent 3 years failing to make much progress despite having a numerical advantage in both weapons and men. Their equipment performed so poorly that I rather doubt they'll have much of a market left for it once they have any left over from what the Ukrainians are destroying to offer for sale.

Yes, I agree.
China is an up and coming state and, in fact, almost monopolises the production of many goods in our country.  In fact, I have just received some items from a firm called 'Temu' which sells cheap Chinese-made goods, which I am pleased to say appear to be of good quality.
Russia has, as has been said, failed to quickly conquer a much smaller state: Ukraine, and I'm not at all sure that Russia could stand up to China, should that country decide to take back the northern areas of Asia that Russia stole from them a few years ago.
