My mate phoned the NHS dentist .. she is on their books...
She has had a loose tooth for some time now... She was hoping it would fall out but it was hanging in there.. and it was painful..
They told her that she hadn't been to them for some time but , on this occasion, they would see her..
They told her to phone the following morning at 8am to try and get an appointment...
She then asked for an appointment for a clean-up.. They said the earliest they could do it was September...

Hang on to your dentist... They are becoming very much like a doctors surgery..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

That's my next appointment to make, it's just coming up to the year since I was there last, need to get my check up.

I  had to join that insurance scheme in order to stay with my dentist,  as they, like the majority of others,  have gone private only.

I found the odd one still NHS is not only miles away,  but is also not taking new patients as they are already flooded out with people who can't, or won't pay private and still want NHS.

I am not happy about this,  but nothing we can do other than a DIY job!

Marge and I are fortunate still to be on the books of an NHS dentist, although it is a few miles away.  We were on their books before these changes came in several years ago, and luckily they have decided still to keep us on.  It is in a rather poor area of Manchester and it has occurred to me that they think that we still live around there and are rather poor.

I'm not surprised.  Most dental practices that I know of decided to go down the private route.  Money, money, money, of course.  We just happened to be lucky, although Marge has occasionally chosen to go private.

I sometimes wonder whether GPs will also begin to go private, because after all there is money in it.  The NHS is apparently being stretched to the limit, what with all these new additions to our population and, of course, that is bound to continue even further now that TwoTier is determined to feed the world.  I'm glad I'm not a young person again!

Talking of the NHS,  what about this little problem then?

I have a problem with Dry Eye,  and have had to use drops on prescription for several years.

Over the last few weeks my eyes have been getting worse, and are sore, so my lovely Optician did some tests, plus a scan of the back of my eyes,  and then said she thinks I need stronger drops.
I got a bottle from her,  then next day contacted my GP to change my repeat prescription,  but they refused to do it.

So then  my optician wrote to the GP and confirmed her findings,  but the GP still said the NHS won't pay for them anymore.
Even the Eye consultant at Northampton General Hospital, who I have got to see again in June,   confirmed I need to continue with the drops.

So what am I supposed to do now?   Are we supposed to go without any treatment if we can't buy our  own medication now?

The GP's secretary suggested I make an appointment to talk to a GP about it next week.

Dry eye  can be very unpleasant. I get drops on prescription but they can also be bought over the counter. Mine varies I think depending on the weather as it is often worse in summer.

Mups, if the consultant said you need the new eye drops then can't he/she arrange a repeat prescription?

I suppose that there is a possibility that the new drops are not on the NICE permitted list🤷🏻♂️

Mups, I suffer from dry eyes sometimes, but at least daily.  I use an over the counter bottle of drops: Optrex.
I find that helps.  Until you are unable to obtain a prescription, you could try this.

Not mine, of course; you'll have to buy your own! 🤣

Which ones do you have, Klondy?
These are the ones they have given me now -  Hycosan  Intense.  They are £17.49

That's an idea, Dex,  although I am not due back there until sometime in June.
I might phone and ask his secretary about it though.

Thanks for that,  JBR.   But even if I did nick yours,  I have to use mine 4 times a day,  so you wouldn't have much left.
