Any fans on here ?  There was a time when I'd never miss an episode of 'Corrie' but it's changed so much the last couple of years - new script writers I assume.  They seem to want a ' Hollyoaks' kind of soap with just young characters, who are no doubt cheaper to employ than the Ken Barlows of old.

After Gail Platt left at Christmas, just reading that Eileen Grimshaw and Daisy from the Rovers bar are also leaving, along with PC Tinker who has been dropped.  The original Corrie was full of great characters and good northern humour, alas no more.

Marge and I watch Classic Coronation Street at every opportunity.  Compared to the present-day version, which is ever so slightly crap, the Classic version from a few years ago is infinitely better having far more interesting and believable characters and storylines.

We did try the current version of the soap, but almost immediately gave up.
The Classic version is available on ITVX.

I don't watch soaps anymore.. They started getting ridiculous, with people being pushed over bridges and motors ending up in the sea..
I used to like Eastenders years back until that gobby bloke took over the pub.. Danny Dyer..
Can't stand the guy.. I did read that Grant Mitchell is making a return..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

You and me both.
I don't like East Enders,  never have done,  but that Danny Dyer is a foul mouthed git and I can't stand him either.

Have you ever seen him being interviewed?  Every other word is 'F-ing'  and dozens of times,  not just a single slip-up.

I lose all interest in someone who can't string a sentence together, and thinks it's big to swear all the time.

Totally agree, Alex.
I confess I do still watch it,  but its nowhere as good as it used to be.

Although never a fan of this or any other soap opera, I visited Granada's studio in Manchester and I've walked up Coronation Street and seen the sets they used inside houses. I think they moved the studios to an elsewhere. Also visited the studio replica of the house of commons and 10 Downing Street.

Corrie is the only soap I watch. It's not what it was, but some of the storylines are topical.

I watched East Enders in the early days, when Dirty Den and Ange ran the pub, even when Mike Read was in it, but no more.  I'm not a fan of Danny Dyer either.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

Michael Rolls

never willingly watched any of the soaps (unless you call Downton Abbey a soap!) but mum was an avid fan of Coronation Street, so I sometimes watched bits until I escaped the nest.
Thank you for the days, the days you gave me

The writers of Corrie have become social workers in disguise !  We've had acid attacks, dodgy cosmetic surgery abroad, colostomy bags, now I read they'll focus on mental health as Abbie Webster's son Seb is brought back from the dead.     Eastenders used to be depressing, although I haven't watched it for many years.  Corrie is going down the same route.

Yes, that is the present-day version.  Not worth watching in my view.
The Classic version from a few years ago is still an attractive and interesting programme.  One big storyline at present is Mike Baldwin beginning to lose his marbles, yet being completely unaware of it and losing his temper with anyone who tries to help him.
Highly recommended.

ChatGPT to the rescue again...

Q. What do you know about Coronation street character Barry who accidentally fell over a cliff..!!

A. It seems there is a mix-up regarding the character "Barry" in Coronation Street falling off a cliff, as no character by that name appears to have such a storyline. However, there was a notable scene in 2017 involving Billy Mayhew, the vicar, who fell off a cliff during a confrontation with Peter Barlow. Peter, in a moment of anger and guilt over past events, confronted Billy and unintentionally caused the fall. Though Billy survived after his fall was broken by vegetation, he was left in critical condition and required medical evacuation. This dramatic moment left fans shocked and generated significant discussion about the unexpected turn in the storyline.

What's happened to Billy the Vicar?   Haven't seen him lately.
