Quote from: CHF on January 03, 2026, 02:04:42 PMHi JBR, I hope your cat is well again soon.

I miss mine every day and sometimes still talk to her.
I wish I wasn't too old to have another.
Thanks for your message CHF.
Yes, she is much better now, thank you.  We have to feed her some medicine every morning now, indefinitely.  She doesn't like it, of course, but I think she's getting used to if.  She is diabetic, but fortunately doesn't need injections; it seems the oral medication is enough.  Unfortunately, being also diabetic, I am obliged to inject myself every morning, but it is no big deal having been doing this for some time now.
The only drawback with Peanut now is that she occasionally has a poo in some remote place in the house!  Marge has put bits of orange peel down in the usual chosen places which seem to act as some sort of deterrent.  I hope she stops doing this habit.  As you're probably aware, we mustn't shout at her as that would be ineffective and unfair to the cat.

JBR,  so in the end,  do you think it was her Diabetes making her ill,  or the change of food?
Did you already know she was diabetic before her recent problems?

No.  Nothing to do with the change of the food.  We had no idea that she is diabetic until the vet did some tests.  Fortunately, the oral medication that the vet prescribed did the trick, though it is necessary to keep giving that for life.  It wasn't mentioned, but I suspect that she may not live as long as her sister.

Ah,  that makes more sense.   I know earlier you thought it was feeding her the Katkin that did it.
Glad its sorted now anyway.

One of my dogs is on lifelong medication too, and has been for the last three years.

Missy, who was always so fastidious, used to do the same for a little while
before she had to be PTS. She had an overactive thyroid and was nearly
20 years old.
I'm sorry to see that you have diabetes. My DiL is type 2 and a g/granddaughter
aged 7 now, is type 1. It is a hellish thing.

It could be worse.  Hopefully, regular medication could still provide a good long life, both your dog and my cat!

I have had diabetes (Type 2) for several years now and it is easily controlled and treated.  One becomes used to it.  Sorry to hear about your daughter-in-law and great-granddaughter.  Type 1 is far worse, in my opinion, and requires more difficult treatment from what I know.
