It's a quick job unless they talk you into a drain flush and add inhibitor which it may benefit from.

Rads come in pretty standard sizes so it should be a straight swap with any luck. Worst case new mounting brackets which come with the rads anyway.

Job entails turn off valves at each end. Drain old rad and take it down. Hang and refit valves to rad. Open valves to fill. Bleed rads.

I will say one thing though and that is rads don't really tend to rust from the outside in unless there was damage to the paint. I'd say if it's rusty it's prone to leak at some point.

I agree with klondy.  I'd be inclined to get a small tin of rust treatment and a tin of radiator enamel paint at this stage.  Highly unlikely it'll leak.

Alex

I've got a rusty radiator too, it's all gone green by the valve thinggy.  Plumber told me to get wire wool to rub it down, rather than buy a new radiator.  He did quote for a new rad in the hall, there's a single one there at the moment and it must be more than 30 years old.  He quoted me £200 that included draining, at least as much as he could. (his words) :hmm:

I know the answer to toast falling butter side down but I'm wondering if there are any experts on microwaved ready meals standard behaviour when dropped? I only have experience of one.

A usual sounds complicated. My heaters are so simple, if a bit dear

Thanks very much once again for your input, Dexm Klondike and Alex.  Interesting.

My one is rusty on that bit at the top, on one end, where there is a bulbous bit, (like a big white onion stuffed at the end).    There is also a bit more rust on the edge about half way down on the side edge.
I need to think this over.

Can you also tell me whether it is possible for an outside light (it shines down the garden) to be affected by this extreme cold?   (They said it was -6  nearby last night).  Only tonight when I turned it on from indoors it kept trying to come on but ended up just flashing on and off instead, so I turned it off.
I have a fear it might be packing up because that is what the kitchen light did last week!   Could it just be this icy cold messing with the electrics?

Sorry to keep asking all this.    :embarrassed:

Never heard of that. What technology is the lamp?

-6°C might be cold for us but most things I've seen that quote operating range go colder.

I don't know what technology a light is.
All I can tell you is it is a larger than normal round bulb, and when my sparky did it,  he said those bulbs last for about 10 years.

I just googled whether outside lights can be affected by cold, and apparently some can.  It said something about condensation,  or lit the cold can do something to the wires?

Here's a bit of it -  " Snow, ice, and freezing rain can be the biggest enemy of the fixtures in the winter months. These can lead to moisture accumulation around light fixtures."

I can't afford to get the blinkin'  electrician back again !!

P.S.  I see he's fixed your sign now.  That's better.  Now as long as you stop fiddling with it,  it should be OK.

-6 is cold, but back in 2010 we had -18

Vlad is very quiet, I hope he's not lost at the bottom of a packing case somewhere in the cold! 😵

Alex

Morning all, it's back up to zero degrees this morning, looks lovely outside but roads haven't been treated.  Makes you wonder what our council tax goes on, it's certainly not fixing pot holes or gritting roads.

I made a pan of bacon and split pea soup yesterday, so dinner is sorted, no need to go out today :upvote:

I was only thinking of him this morning too, Ruthio.
Hope all's well, and he is just busy settling in.

Morning all.  Still very cold and frosty here,  -4 this morning.

Damned cowboy - I saw it blink a bit earlier so I think it's going. No wonder we don't get new members they all think we're shut. Or maybe with that  naughty step thing that Raven liked and Scrumpy's avatar they all get the wrong idea?

No more snow here, Northumberland, and 2c.

Can I have an avatar, please?
