It isn't really hold music - more an annoying tingly jingle with constant interruptions telling you that if you are having a heart attack hang up and  call 999, if you want a repeat prescription tough, how much easier it would be if you did it online etc. along with where you are in the queue then more of the same annoying jingle.

But you can, Klondie.  I have done my Repeat online for at least a couple of years now.   I do it on Patient Access:

If I remember right,  you just  have to ask at your GP reception to give you some kind of 'Code'  to sign in with, and join up.
You can also access your medical records then, too.

Or some Surgeries are encouraging patients to use the new 'Anima'   website too.

I've done all mine online  for ages. I was just talking about the gabble they put in the hold music. You can't phone for a repeat these days.

I used Anima to get an appointment but when I clicked to book one it crashed. That's why I was on the phone. In the past I've walked there rather than phone.
