I know they have an open one in Newcastle, I also believe you can ask to get referred to one. If I ever need to go through that particular hell again I'm certainly asking for a referral.

I've never even heard of those, Raven.
I bet the majority of patients would opt for one of those if they had a choice.

I hadn't heard of them and couldn't see how they could work so looked them up. They don't work as well because the magnetic field is weaker and can't be used for everything

I had an MRI scan in August 2021 due to heart problems.  I was already familiar with MRI because Marge used to set one up and run it (at a different hospital).  Naturally, I took a great interest in MRI (though never operated one).
Yes, they are loud and have restricted room for the patient, and a scan can take quite a long time (though scans are much quicker now).  Apart from the loud banging, I felt no problems though some people may find them claustrophobic and possibly frightening.  In addition, anything metallic must be removed prior to entry into the room, for obvious reasons!  Obviously, I could not go into an MRI scanner now, as I have a pacemaker.
I have never seen one of the 'open' ones.

I think the length of time you're in the tunnel depends on what they are scanning.
They told me mine would be 20-25 mins in there.
The lady  before me was only 15-17.

It's not just the continuous noise that gets to me though,  its the closeness of the tunnel 'ceiling.'   It feels so close to my face, and I don't like that.   I wish the made the tunnels a bit bigger instead of so small inside.

Our oldest granddaughter moved to university at the weekend.  An exciting chapter in her life, and a big change for her mum and dad, who will really miss her being around.  She's lovely, cheerful, hard working, funny and clever.  Of course I'm biased! 😍
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

I wish her all the best and hope she does well.
