Quote from: JBR on August 13, 2025, 07:23:27 PMWe use Amazon a lot and pay for membership so have free delivery, and things usually arrive on the day following order.  The prices are very competitive and what we buy is of good quality.
So do I but not everything on Amazon is stocked and delivered by Amazon. They act as a shopfront for other sellers.

The difference between them and eBay is that eBay don't stock or deliver anything they are just the shopfront. Same with AliExpress except they organise all the delivery side of things.

It feels very heavy and stormy tonight, yet nothing forecast.
Horrible air,    gives me the willies,  don't like it.

Yes, I believe that is true.  However, as far as I know, if something doesn't cut the mustard or packs up before its time, they are very good at replacing or refunding.  Having said that, I don't think we've ever had that problem, fortunately.

On another topic, I thought you (well, JB mostly) might like to solve this clue from today's Telegraph crossword.

As if Mrs Thatcher turned into a bearer of gifts! (6,9)
JB, you may have missed this.  Think you'll enjoy the answer😉😊

My telly man hasn't turned up!
9.30 he said he'd be here.   No phone call - nothing.    Grrr. . . .

Scrumpy

Oh! Mups... what a bummer that is..
I hate it when they don't turn up and give no explanation..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Dextrous63

One shouldn't channel one's anger remotely.

Makes one want to SCREEEEEN😬

Mups

I phoned the telly man in the end, and asked him if he was coming or not.

He said he had got held up.

This is a 'man thing.'   Why do men do this?
No one can help getting held up at times,  but it shouldn't stop them picking the bloomin' phone up and letting us know they're running late.

Anyway,  he's been now and took the telly away.
I said I didn't know whether it was worth mending or whether to get a new one instead, but he said to let him have a look at what the problem is first.

He reckons the most reliable makes are Sony,  or Samsung.

My daughter-in-law offered me her old one for nothing.  But its nearly a foot bigger than mine, and I don't want a big thing like that.   It wouldn't fit on the cabinet top I use, anyway.

I have decided I will wait and see what he find wrong first.  If it is too expensive,  I'll just replace it instead.

Mups... Don't waste your money on repairs..
You bet if something goes wrong... then something else will go wrong..
Throwing good money after bad.. or whatever the saying is..

Bloody hot and humid here.. Cleaned my wheelie bins...
Done a bit of washing and hoovered the living room.. That's my lot..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Mups

Scrumps,  thanks for the advice,  but I have told him if there is much wrong,  don't bother mending it.
Otherwise, if it is just something simple, he can mend it this time,  but not any more.
The telly is not that old though.

He's a retired really,  so he hasn't got people's wages or anything to pay, and only charged me £20 quid last time.   I wouldn't get a new telly for £20.
I'll see what he says before I decide to dump it.

Busy day yesterday, dog had to go to groomer then the vets, car conked out at 14:30 called RAC who arrive quickly, car has to be towed to dealership, electrical problem won't start or lock RAC contractor arrived just after midnight a nearly 10 hour wait. Made some complaints to RAC customer service. Not that anything will happen of course. Might get a replacement hire vehicle next week, I am not holding my breath

Chuggers flogging power. Scottish Power I think. May even have been a good deal but I never buy on the doorstep.

Alex

Really warm here today, a lovely morning.  I went to the hairdressers at 1.30, came out 40 mins later and it bloody rained !   only a shower though.

That's awful, Vlad.   Were you waiting in the car all that time,  or had they taken you home first?
Hope you're soon sorted.

A couple of years back,  when it was freezing cold in winter,  I had awful so-called 'Rescue'  from them as well.
Useless buggers even went to the wrong place for the call-out too!
Of course they couldn't find me because they weren't in the right place,  so they buggered off again.
Eventually I phoned them and had to start all over again.

It was bitter cold as well,  and the car wouldn't start so I couldn't even put the heater on to keep warm.
I wouldn't deal with them again.

Vlad, just occurred to me...did you have your dog in the car with you when it conked out? That's a long time to wait at the dealership, if that's what happened.
