Mups, glad you got it sorted.  Was told by a locksmith never to squirt wd40 into locks for some reason.

Seems like your local friendly locksmith was right, Dex.  But I wanted to know why, so looked it up:

Is WD-40 a good lubricant for locks?

The simple answer is you should not use WD40 to lubricate locks. WD-40 is one of the solvent-based lubricants and does not contain any lubricant and over time can make your lock even stickier by gumming the lock up.

I am seriously pee'd off.

In the last few days I've had trouble with my doorbell,  then trouble getting a spare key cut,  and now tonight,  my telly has conked out - again.

Don't know if anyone remembers, but it did this a few months back and a elderley retired chap I know who used to work with telly's as his business, kindly came out to mend it for me.
It's been fine since,  until tonight and suddenly, without any warning it just went off and won't come back on again.  This is exactly what it did before.
Looks like I am going to have to ring him again in the morning.

One last little problem too,  is my hearing aids suddenly won't connect to Bluetooth today.
They were fine yesterday,  now today -  nothing.
They work,  but I am having to set them by hand instead of with the Bluetooth the audiologist installed on my phone for me.
There's all sorts of reasons apparently,  but as usual,  I can't follow the instructions because I can't 'do'  technology.
Pee'd off.  I reckon someone is sticking pins in my effigy this week.

One should also not spray WD40 into televisions, nor hearing aids.

Oh pipe down,  you.    :nooo:

By the way,  you took the mick about my tin foil over the doorbell,  but it seems to have done the trick.
So there -

Just phoned TV repair man and he is coming to take it away tomorrow morning 9.30.

I do hope it doesn't mean a new telly's needed.
This chap doesn't sell telly's,  so he probably won't try and push me into buying a new one.

Glad to hear your bell is fixed. I doubt the tinfoil did anything though unless it's over the indoor unit which may stop it working at all. Have you checked that it still rings?

Dextrous63

I think standing by your doorbell, holding a parasol whenever the sun comes out is the way forward.

TV's aren't really that expensive nowadays.  We recently got a decent sized smart one for about £130.  Does the trick.  Plus, although I've not tried yet, I might be able to Bluetooth my hearing aid to it.

Alex

I agree about new tellies being cheap these days.
By the time you've paid someone to take it away to fix - twice ! you could have perhaps invested in a new one Mups, save any more problems for you.

There are cheaper ones out there, but I'm told Hisense is a good make  :upvote:

Ours is a Hisense.  Got it from Amazon.

On another topic, I thought you (well, JB mostly) might like to solve this clue from today's Telegraph crossword.

Morning, The only time I've been cool today so far was while I was in the pool, spent ages sitting in the poolside jacuzzi after my lengths, lovely cool bubbles washing over me.......Sigh.
Hiding away with the fans again, this heat is draining me, will be so glad when it ends.

Nice swim this morning.  Went to dentist about potential enamel erosion.  He had a look and said not to worry about it, see you same time next year for your next checkup.

Taking it easy.  Will have a dip in the hot tub later.

That would probably be a recipe for frustration. It is possible but both the headset and the sender (TV itself or whatever BT sender you've added to it) need to support the apt-X low latency codec otherwise poor lip sync will be incredibly annoying.

I had to buy new (expensive) headphones and Bluetooth sender unit to make mine acceptable. I only really need that for films and the like because I have trouble following the dialogue through either the TV speakers or a soundbar but documentaries are fine just using the soundbar.

My main TV is a Hisense and it seems ok. Mine came with Roku as the smart bit and I liked that so much I bought a Roku dongle for the dumb TV it replaced which went in the bedroom.

The continuing saga of delivery annoyances. Maybe it's because I get a lot of stuff delivered.

Ordered something from Amazon. It's not an Amazon sold product and the seller has chosen Royal Mail  :worried: They are a PITA because they give rubbish delivery windows - you can pretty much say all day and can't deliver to lockers (must check if they could deliver to the miserable git in the Post Office but probably not as that is an Amazon counter)

eMail from RM last night we will deliver tomorrow. Offer options to change. As I'm always out Wednesday I changed to Thursday. Got email confirming change.
This morning got email we will deliver your parcel today  :waiting:

While at daughters doorbell app on phone tells me somebody at door. Took a look. Bloke in red shirt. What looks like the product I ordered on wall. Notice delivery bloke has DPD on that red shirt. Odd.

This afternoon at home my parcel arrives.

Not sure what DPD were trying to deliver as I don't have any other orders expected today.

At least it's not expensive like new locks, doorbells or TVs just irritating.

We use Amazon a lot and pay for membership so have free delivery, and things usually arrive on the day following order.  The prices are very competitive and what we buy is of good quality.

Ooh don't!      But no,  I haven't tried it myself,  but I suppose I ought to.
Won't do it at the mo though,  as its a bit late to have the dogs go loopy.  Will ring it in the morning in daylight, and let you know.

I am seriously considering a new telly now after everyone's advice.
Only thing is,  if I got one from Amazon,  would you trust the courier to deliver it in good working order after slinging about his van all day?

It's too late to put the repair man off,  but I suspect he will say replace it.   I will ask him what he might suggest for the wiring and aerial I've got here.

I was looking on Amazon earlier,  but its a bit confusing because they seem to have so many fancy gadgets on tv's now.
I don't want one that does everything but cook me dinner for me,  as I know I would never  need, want, or use half  the programmes.
Why do they make everything so complicated these days!
