There was a young man name of Nick
Who tried hard to write limericks
He was a big fan
But his lines didn't scan
So he gave up and went out in his car. (He didn't have a van)

Granny's on the naughty step and that's a fact
She tried to be funny but wrote a load of crap
If she doesn't get it right she's out of the game
There'll be tears but has only herself to blame 
I'll say no-more because.... that is that....

The title mentions 'limerick'
But it lost it's cadence pretty quick
It's now a poetic free for all I fear.

There were some old people who tried
By limerick rules to abide
The rhymes though quite smart
And writ from the heart
Were not the right style, someone cried.
