Expected new armament for 2025....

Quote from: Cassandra on December 29, 2024, 10:13:55 PMHello JB, it's 2% rising over a few years to 3%, or it was nearly five yearsago when The Donald last attempted to apply reality to that values Cemetary  - the EU.Easy to see why the Germans extended their wealth - they never spent on defence, hiding behind History to create a freshly washed appearance whilst presenting their GDP over the years in a 'protracted' way. I'm not against Germans, in fact I have may relatives from a beautiful, once hard working country. It's their politicians that get me, Merkel and now the trite Von der Leyen. Their people increasingly dislike them as much as we do both there and here. They've wrecked the brilliant and hard won 'mittelstrand', that great band of small, medium and large enterprises From Mercedes, Bayer and Siemens through to all the brilliant smaller component manufacturers that supplied them. German engineering was and probably still is the best in the world. Von der Layen and her hapless minions have dragged them down with Milliband esque crap woke beliefs in nett zero and trying to start WW3 as a country with no oil and now being disallowed to use their massive coal reserves, because teacher says no!
Yes indeed.

We have thrown away just about every asset we had on the altar of 'nett zero' which is, of course, unacheivable.  Why do the people in power have the disadvantage of lacking any practical common sense?

Like Germany, we still have millions of tons of coal under our feet.  Although presently illegal to even think about it, thankfully it remains there ready for use if and when any common sense should ever re-emerge.  The only unfortunate thing is that by then we shall all be so dim as to have no idea how to extract it.
This is a particular interest of mine as when I was teaching I explained about coal mining and, once retired, I volunteered to show people around the (disused) coal mine (Astley Green) where I had taken my class every year.  Now too old, I hope that many young people still visit and learn about such examples of our past.

It is harmful to the environment when coal is used for heating and producing electric curent. So in Germany we are trying to use as little coal as possible.

Our last coal fired stations which were only used when absolutely necessary were shut down for good earlier in the year. The grid providers are maybe stocking up on Duracell AAs to cover all the EVs and heat pumps this winter when the wind stops and the sun don't shine so we can keep the lights on. I will be myself anyway.

An extroadinary 'juxta position', perhaps he has 'Tommy Robinson' in mind. The trouble is Musk may have started to believe he owns the world. After all the margin between 'genius' and 'insanity' is very close, I know I've met so many, at the Strand or The Bailey. He sometimes looks mildly 'imbalanced' to me, I must say? I think Nigel has enough 'mildly rich people' giving say up to £10k each and with the thousands who will give far more than the £25 subscription; that he'll make out, over the next 4 + years until Labour's hopeful extinction. As important as capital is the quality of management, here in their new Chairman Tia Yusuf and donors such as Nick Candy they have sufficient capital for now and their intelligence to go with it. Reform need spotless candidates and hard work at grass roots level from activists, whose concentrated effort they can harness. Tragically the UK has a bunch of hapless nett zero zealotry to survive through until then. Nigel though, does have the time with a fair wind to prepare 'Reform'  and ensure strong roots to build upon.
