Quote from: Scrumpy on December 28, 2024, 10:58:25 AMLet's put it this way... Musk can not make it any worse..

We have a government who welcomes ALL from ANYWHERE ..with open arms..
Provide warmth and food  and a bit of pocket money.
They take from our elderly.. YET
Send vast amounts of money to other countries to HELP the suffering..
They supply arms to those who are in conflict with another YET can not control the killings on our own streets..
Our hospitals are falling apart and treatment  offered when victims are passed being treated..

They empty our prisons... allowing criminals to re-offend..
They allow the plea  'I have mental problems'.. 'Someone spoke to me in my head' and 'I have found the lord'...

Their motto is  LESSONS HAVE BEEN LEARNED      We are a laughing stock..
And to top it all we MOCK Trump..
Absolutely.  In my opinion, the election of a government led by Farage and helpfully supported by Elon Musk is probably the only solution to the forthcoming ruin of this country.

Both of the so-called 'two main parties' have demonstrated their inadequacies in running this country over the past 25 years.  That is a long time over which to make little or no progress, and when we have had 30 years of such damage I shudder to think of what state we will be in by then.  Could Reform possibly undo the damage?

Government failings predate that. Thatcher inherited an absolutely wrecked economy. She rebuilt it but at huge cost for some communities only for those that followed to throw it all away again.

I agree.  Even worse, rather than allow her to continue, she was stabbed in the back by her fellow MPs.

That was when the rot began to begin.

The sooner Starmer's lot are out the better..
As for the Conservatives they destroyed themselves.. Starting with arrogance of Boris..
I do hope Conservatives do not become our next government.. Many seem to think that there are only two parties.. WRONG..
You seem to have become a convert. Unless I remember wrongly, a sadly ever increasing possibility as time moves on, you were quite a fan of Boris but you now realise he was lead by the nose, or more likely a different protuberance, by his new young wife of the green persuasion. It's good to see scales being cast from people's eyes.

As for Musk I welcome the money but am still wary of what amounts to foreign involvement in our politics.

" Could Reform possibly undo the damage?" I am not too familiar with English politics but I have my doubts Nigel Farage and Musk could/would transform the UK in a prosperous country. With the aid of the EU and the special conditions that were granted Thatcher was able to stabilise the UK economy. Musk certainly won't be willing to pump money into a country/economy if he isn't the beneficiary.

He may view supporting Reform as an act of altruism, aimed at removing the complacent MP's currently running (ie ruining) the country.

Thatcher wasn't granted those "special conditions" she sought to remove a part of the oddball setup where the UK was paying more than a fair share into the pot. She succeeded mores the pity. If she hadn't we'd have left far sooner.

I was a big fan of Boris.. I was so disappointed when he lied (openly) about the parties they had.. and he was arrogant when doing so.. He was, in my opinion, the leader that destroyed the party..  They never did regain the popularity they once had.. I doubt they will for many years..

My choice now is Reform.. Why !! I don't know..
I am not a big fan of Farage.. But , because I don't like the others, he is the best of the bunch..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

It was the lies he told that got him ousted but he sold us down the river in far more important ways than that.

The only thing ready cooked about his Brexit deal was our goose because it was poor in the extreme.

Then add that he was in favour of open borders and did absolutely bugger all to reduce legal inward migration which is entirely with the power of the government to control.

It was his predecessor May who made us defenceless against the illegals by writing the ECHR rules into British law so the only blame he can take for that is making no move at all to correct our legal conundrum that stops us deporting those that fail.

It was the influence of his wife no doubt that had him get us signed up for the Net Zero nonsense that will bankrupt the country and leave us poor, cold and walking.

Can Reform fix all that crap? Probably not but what is certain is that they are the only party if elected as our government are likely to actually try.

Thank you.  I wasn't actually sure who handed over the country to the ECHR.  I have never liked May.  She was also the one who, I believe, sacked many of our experienced police and I feel that our police have not been the same ever since.

If Reform should be elected to government with a good majority, I sincerely hope that they can correct many of the problems brought about by BOTH of the two 'main parties'.  They have been causing damage for about 25 years now, so there is a lot to put right.

Another big job is to remove all the people who have entered this country illegally.  One problem is proving exactly where they have come from, of course.  Perhaps if they were told that because they are here illegally they will get nothing at all, the option of permanent imprisonment without support of any kind might persuade them to own up, especially if they are offered free transport to their country of origin.

Actually I made a mistake in that post. It was Blair who wrote the E Convention of HR into UK law and May who opted to retain say the E Court of HR have over us. There are two things with those initials.

Quote from: ansu on December 28, 2024, 08:54:17 AMA very interesting discussion. However, don't forget Musk is a "business man" always looking to make money irrespective of the consequences for the environment etc. He built a big factory in Eastern Germany in a region where water is a problem sometimes and his philosophy of life is "hire and fire", i.e. the job isn't secure and so far I haven't read anywhere that he is supporting initiatives for helping people in need. Are you sure that he will improve your standard of living? With all those crisis and wars in the world times are hard for everyone.

Well it won't matter, the UK thanks to Starmer, will be languishing with all the other losers of Mutter Merkel's crazed EU bloated and busted alliance. Currently in recession as a result of disillusion and idealistic pomp, they beat a withered drum, waving the Sabre and mouthing at Russia; whilst practising for war with broomsticks and inciting the Final Conflict for all of us. Spending less than 1.0% p.a. average on defence, Germany will need the Americans to counterbalance their piss-poor military.  I hope Trump says to Von der Leyen and her fellow fanny's - 'get on with it, if your so good, prove it - wer'e outa here' ...

I am not surprised.  BLiar is one of our worst leaders who, in his time, caused as much ruin as the many Conservative PMs over the following fourteen years.  Indeed, May is only one of those Conservative PMs who made no effort to remove us from the ECHR's control.  Court or Convention, I suspect that both are in the same business!

In fairness, I understand that Germany is not alone in underspending on defence.  I believe that other EU countries are doing exactly the same.  On the other hand, for some apparent reason, Poland and perhaps other such nations are keen to spend at least as much as they are required to!

I think I'm right in believing that my friend* Trump is suggesting that if other NATO members fail to pay at least 2% (or is it 3%?) of their GDP, the US may decide not to support them in war.

(* I do not pretend that I am a friend of his.  Of course, he is even completely unaware of my existence!)

The way our economy is tanking under Labour we could easily end up spending a higher % on defence but less actual cash. Until they cut it of course.

Expected new armament for 2025....

Hello JB, it's 2% rising over a few years to 3%, or it was nearly five yearsago when The Donald last attempted to apply reality to that values Cemetary  - the EU.Easy to see why the Germans extended their wealth - they never spent on defence, hiding behind History to create a freshly washed appearance whilst presenting their GDP over the years in a 'protracted' way. I'm not against Germans, in fact I have may relatives from a beautiful, once hard working country. It's their politicians that get me, Merkel and now the trite Von der Leyen. Their people increasingly dislike them as much as we do both there and here. They've wrecked the brilliant and hard won 'mittelstrand', that great band of small, medium and large enterprises From Mercedes, Bayer and Siemens through to all the brilliant smaller component manufacturers that supplied them. German engineering was and probably still is the best in the world. Von der Layen and her hapless minions have dragged them down with Milliband esque crap woke beliefs in nett zero and trying to start WW3 as a country with no oil and now being disallowed to use their massive coal reserves, because teacher says no!
