General Discussion / Re: Postal service?

On a loosely related matter, as you may recall my MiL passed away several months ago.  Naturally, my wife contacted as many people as possible over the following few weeks by church announcement, phone calls, letters etc of the news.  Naturally, one or two will have slipped through the net despite our best efforts.

Every few days we naturally nip to her empty flat to check all is ok and pick up the post.

What befuddles us is the Christmas  cards they have been sent to my deceased MiL from people who not only has my wife spoken to, but who actually attended the funeral.  🤷🏻♂️

One (from my lost since deceased FiL - (1982), a decade before I even met my future wife) from his Masonic lodge actually included a £20 note to his widow ... ie my MiL.

Could just be the "choke"

Either way, in this day and age it'll be wiser to get a LED equivalent which will last for the rest of eternity.

It's also possible that some of the work force are off ill with this nasty flu bug. That would leave them short handed and a backlog would build up.

Measure your tube length and diameter and check their website to find the exact one. They may give watt equivalent which is likely marked on your tube. I'd guess at 40w fluorescent for a kitchen. There should be a stock check function. Don't expect highly skilled advice from people working in retail either.

They may let you recycle the old tube there too.

While Reg was sipping his Ale
His dog started wagging its tail
He'd spied Roy's  Pork Pie
Out the corner of his eye
It was done before Reg could wail

My dog Yogi would never do that

I'm with Michael and advocate candles.

Apart from that, I've not been around much for a couple of days.  Prepping for Xmas, and more to the point we've had our decorator in to do the kitchen.  Lovely fella, great decorator, but by golly he can talk.  He's here for around 8 hours, of which he does 3-4 hours work and the rest of the time chatting. Funny thing is that the nature of painting/caulking etc means that the between task chats is actually useful in that it allows things to go-off.

Be careful disposing of the old tube. They contain a small quantity of mercury which is poisonous and one of the reasons they were withdrawn from sale.
Just had a look on B&Q website,  but it said  'Not available in store.'   And - 'Not available for click & Collect.'

However,  Screwfix have got some,  but I get confused between my Lumens, Watts, and Volts!
I may ring them in the morning and see if they are open.

I wonder if B&Q  would have one?   I must admit its difficult with half my kitchen dark.
Mind you,  it'll be hell in town tomorrow I bet.  Hmm . .   :hmm:

The Chat Room / Re: Favourite Christmas Songs

I know what Noddy Holder's favourite Christmas song must be.

How much does Noddy Holder make from Merry Christmas Everybody?

Noddy Holder, a songwriter for the band Slade, earns an estimated £500,000–£1,000,000 in royalties annually from his Christmas song, "Merry Xmas Everybody". The exact figure is kept secret by the Performing Rights Society (PRS) to protect its clients.

The 1973 glam rock Christmas number one, according to Performing Right Society in 2013, nets songwriter Noddy Holder more than £500,000 a year. However, later estimates from Channel 5 in 2016 have suggested that the song is now worth £1 million according to the London Standard
