Limiting our Shopping

I have just read that Tesco's are going to limit the amount of some things that people buy.

Personally, I think this is a good thing.   Apparently it is to stop those people who panic/bulk  buy and clear the shelves so there is nothing left for anyone else.
I remember it being done with loo rolls a few years back,  and I think its selfish.

To be honest,  I hope more supermarkets follow Tesco's lead, too.

What is all this about anyway?
As I said in another thread recently,  I still think the Government knows more than it is telling us.

I think they know that the grid is fragile. The grid in Spain and Portugal had a big outage last year

There has been lack of investment matching the scramble to decarbonise it with renewables. Gas storage was cut (by the Tories I think) and gas fired is the backup generation if there is insufficient power which with the amount of solar in winter could be a big problem when we get the low wind periods that can happen in January and February.

You'll still be able to make a cuppa by using tea lights in a muffin tin to boil a little pan of water.  I saw that earlier today on FB

I'm pretty sure I've got a little flat camping stove and some gas bottles. I'd have to eat a can of something first as I have no kettle.

I think you'd need more than one tealight.

This is what I was on about:

"The retail giant has put restrictions in place to stop customers from purchasing excessive quantities of the same item in a single transaction."

Which as I said,  I think is fair.

I remember when people were buying lorry loads of loo rolls,  but then someone just wanting an ordinary pack of 4  didn't stand a chance.
Half the time it was only being done so they could flog them on at a profit anyway!

Scaremongering at its best..

One voice... just one voice... can start a panic.. a war... ........

'No mince pies in the Co-op!!!!'
The word goes up.. Words get added and taken away..
Two weeks down the line.. People are building air raid shelters...
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I don't like the sound of this. Has anyone got a list of what's to be limited? Apart from loo rolls. 🫪

Mups

You'll have to google it, Raven,  as there's loads of things they are stopping bulk purchases of, from bread and dairy to cooked meats.
Apparently it says on the shelves though,  but I haven't been in store to check that out.

I understand we are allowed no more than 16 of the same item,  -  which is about 15 more than I am likely to ever buy anyway.

I still think it is a good idea to stop people panic buying and leaving the shelves empty for other shoppers.

Will do Mups, thanks. Living away from the town or the village I like to keep a small stock of things. We can (not always) get cut of for several days at a time in the bad weather, having extra in the freezer and cupboards helps a lot.
