Oh dear, Scrump.
I wonder what promoted that particular name, but of course, I shall not try to dig deeper.
Perhaps I could recommend some sort of oil?

My school nickname for many years was The Doctor. This was years before Doctor Who. I'd had the role of a doctor in a school play about St. George and I was the doctor who had to tend poor St. George who had been gored by the dragon. I had a solitary like when I leapt onto the stage with s bottle of medicine which I declared would cure the "deap and deadly wound". Nobody else got knicknames from it. I must have made an impression.

One of my son's friends got the nickname Nookie. It was his glasses that made him look like Nookie Bear. Children can be cruel. Cruel to their teachers too. They saw one's underpants on a Geography trip to Snowdonia when they stayed in a youth hostel. He was forever after known as skidder.

When you were young, did you used to address others by their surnames?  We did.  Rarely used Christian names at all.

Thus, my friend with surname Bates had a prefix added by many which I'm sure you can imagine used to hack him off somewhat!

The boys used to call people by their surname..
Even recently one of the Driscoll twins called me by my surname when I saw him in the Co-op..

I only went to a mixed school up to age 11 but I think once past infants all boys were addressed by surname while the girls were addressed by forename. I might be wrong though as I recall both names for quite a few boys and girls and none where I knew only one or the other from then.

I can't recall what we called girls at primary school (I went to a prep, and my recollections are limited somewhat to the weird curriculum, coupled with enforced eating of pickled beetroot, although I was deeply in love with a girl named Rosemary Cuss ❤️).  Secondary was a strict single sex boys RC school in Kensington, with many beatings to try and reduce individuality.

Alas, some of our priest teachers had a bit of a different concept of what the term "rod" meant in the expression "spare the rod, spoil the child" 😳

Hence our little joke of ..

"Bend over, boy"

" No sir.  I'd rather have the cane."

Here's a pleasant little story of a teacher who worked at both my prep and secondary school...

Fascinating fella in some respects.  He built a large organ (no pun intended ) in our upper school hall.

Not sure that he interpreted the school motto Amare et Servire in the way it was originally intended.  🤣🤣🤣
