Potholes & Highway Budgets

Our local council have decided to renew the contract with the same firm who have been mending potholes.
They are keeping them on until, at least 2030.

They are said to have realised that to bring this county's roads up to a decent standard (huh  ),  would cost close to  £380m.    This year's highway budget is  £18m!!

It doesn't take much working out to see things aren't going to improve over the next year, does it.

We had contractors round laying a few patches over the last month. Only the worst parts where the tarmac was missing. Where it's only broken up they didn't repair it. That was the first repair in years, whereas during the alleged pandemic they had a gang of men out laying a little garden in at a road junction - for no good reason that I could work out - that must have cost over a million pounds, that has since been covered in old leaves and weeds. The same council has also allowed weeds to grow out of the pavements all over the place.

They probably did get a rewilding grant. Curiously enough, the council's trees get regular attention but the roads and pavements are neglected.

While I'm having a rant, local councils are not obliged to provide any public conveniences, and ours doesn't provide any. At the same time they make public space orders to stop men relieving themselves in the street. I think they've got this wrong myself, and I wonder if it would stand up in court.

Yes you're right about the council not having to provide public loos, Ashy.

While men can normally pee quickly and easily somewhere,  what the 'eck are women supposed to do I wonder?

If you are in a town the bigger shops often have them. If you are a regular visitor and often need them construct a map.
