Axel Rudakabana

Two years into his life sentence Southport killer Axel Rudakabana has been transferred from Belmarsh prison to Broadmoor, a high-security psychiatric hospital.
Used to be called the prison for the criminally insane.
Broadmoor which has just been rebuilt into a modern facility  is a more comfortable and safer environment than a jail like Belmarsh. It's also far more expensive. Instead of the approximately £100,000 per year Rudakubana cost us as a prisoner, he will now cost over £300,000 per year
He will remain in Broadmoor until psychiatrists decide he's well enough to return to prison.
Under the Mental Health Act, if clinical and medical practitioners recommend a prisoner is moved to a secure hospital, the prison service is effectively obliged to abide by their recommendation to avoid legal challenge.

Many people including the prison staff  who deal with him don't believe he is really mentally ill.
( I do no one sane could commit those terrible crimes but mental or not he is evil )

But he is apparently extremely manipulative and has history of this from his schooldays where he threatened to kill another student
Both the police and his head teacher thought he  could do it and they were right but were overruled by racist / discrimination concerns
professional psychiatrist has decided that he needs to be transferred to a secure mental health facility so that  for no good reason is that .

Peter Sutcliffe managed the same trick for 42 years his own brother said he was not insane .

Rudakubana is so dangerous  he will spend  all of his 52-year  sentence locked up, and is unlikely to ever be released. He will remain under constant supervision in a high-security psychiatric unit, and be returned to prison as soon as possible.
Fifty-two years, whether in a hospital or a prison, won't bring those three little girls back.
 And it's all at vast public cost.
 If Rudakubana stays in Broadmoor he will cost taxpayers ( including the families of those children ) £15.6m over his sentence, down to around £5.4m if he's back in prison within a year. That money could be far-better spent elsewhere in our justice or health systems.

Violent dangerous men in jail with nothing to lose has other serious issues .
Assaults on staff are very high. In May 2025  Rudakubana attacked a prison officer with boiling water.
It is wrong that prison officiers face the risk of being seriously injured or maimed by maniacs like this.

Were  he a dog that had bitten someone he would have been put down .
He is far more dangerous .

For criminals like Axel Rudakubana, whose guilt is beyond doubt, who has committed heinous  crimes and for whom there is no possibility of rehabilitation or release, there is but one far better option the death penalty.

To keep him alive is madness .

I think anyoone committing acts like he did must have some level of insanity. It must seem like an easy ride though to the families of the victims.

Indeed but that doesn't mean we should keep them alive for the remainder of their worthless lives .
Vets put animals , innocent animals ,down every day with a simple injection of euthanasia .
We could do the same .
We have to think of the public at large.
It doesn't make us more civilised to keep heinous proven murderers  for decades .

I have always maintained (well, since 1968) that we should restore the act of hanging for murderers.
Of course, there are many soft do-gooders who try to maintain that hanging is barbaric, (presumably not believing that murder is barbaric).  It would be interesting to ask them their opinion again following the murder of someone close to them!

At the risk of extending the discussion ever so slightly, I also believe that anyone entering this country illegally should be housed in 'old world' prison camps until they provide evidence of their nation of origin and agree to return voluntarily.  After all, why do they come here from France or the rest of Europe and even pay to do so?
