King Charles paid  nearly £13 million pounds in tax last year.
The POW £7.5 million

But
The sovereign grant ( former civil list) has gone up to £132.1 million
Next year it is estimated  to be £137.9 million
Last year it was around £80 million
That is one heck of an increase .

Meanwhile the Kings personal fortunes has gone up too by about 10%
Much more than inflation
Much more than most pay rises

We have a country that can't find the money to maintain a proper defence force .
Why do we need to give public money to a family that is already immensely rich .

However taxpayers can pay out £370 million for renovations for Buckingham Palace

Meanwhile Charles and William are two of the richest men in the world whose portfolios of properties makes them into the billionaire category.

Charles unlike his poorer  subjects who pay 40% on anything over £325k paid no Inheritance on the millions and vast property portfolio  left to him by his mama .

Nor will William when he inherits .

All this and the country still fawns on this incredibly privileged mediocre family.

Not me, I'm no Royalist. I see Harry is planning a visit along with the kids this time. Wonder if they're to meet their grandfather.

I bet he's dreading it .
Fortunately as King he can find some urgent function to attend .
( preferably in Australia )

Muddy, I agree with you as to the King and William's taxes.

I wish Harry would come home permanently. He isn't as work-shy as his brother
who seems to find any excuse to do damn all.

I don't care much whether he does or not.   It's like the famous Beckham feud publicly dragging on and on.
On the surface, it seems for the same reasons as well -  the families not approving of son's wife.

There must be thousands of families who have fallen out for reasons only they know the truth of,  but  its only the famous ones who make the papers because  the journalists are paid good money to stir it up as much as possible.

The public are not qualified to pass judgement really,  as I doubt any of us know Harry's wife,  nor  Brooklyn's wife,  but we still judge.

(Incidentally,  I've had nothing to do with my own brother since about 2014,  but that never made the papers).

Harry isn't work-shy !!!  I assume you are joking..
What WORK has he done..!!  Other than sue the press... write a book... chat to Oprah .. and do deals with Netflix...
All at a fair price... That is not work..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I agree they don't actually do really work .
Harry is lucky to be born well off because he is not bright and has no particular talent and were he born to a humbler station in life would be probably stacking shelves in a supermarket .
He would have to get up be there on time and generally do what he is told by the manager .
In-between  he would have to do an arduous boring job which he would have to do in order to pay his mortgage and other bills .
He can have no concept of what real work is like .
That was pretty clear when he said his father had cut off funding for him ( he was 38 at the time)
Poor chap  would  have to survive on the paltry millions his mother left him .

Wasn't there an arrangement made whereby large tracts of the royal estates were transferred to the government in exchange for the civil list, and there was great benefit to the public purse?

I don't think shelf stackers have ever had mortgages. The last period when those doing a low end job could afford a mortgage was before supermarkets were invented.
