 - but they were happy tears.  It is his 90th Birthday and I had made one of my special cards - the look on his face when he opened it had me a bit wet behind the eyes as well.  His wife, M, and I have been good friends for 80 years and have never actually fallen out.  Had disagreements, yes, but always .resolved them amicably.  She and T met through a mutual interest in aeroplanes.  He was in the Royal Observer Corps, (featured on the card), and was a coal miner (also featured on the card) when they first met.  He retrained and became an electrician for the City Council.
Today was lovely - their daughter is currently on holiday in Turkey but telephoned to wish her Dad a  happy birthday, and their son,  who lives in France now, came over especially to be with his Dad for the occasion.  He took T off to a nearby private airfield to play at 'plane spotters' for the day, while M and I put the world to rights over bowls of soup and T's wonderful homemade bread.

Came home on happy little pink fluffy clouds - heavily disguised as a 'bus - and reality hit me in the eye when I opened the front door and found Nemo, the monster cat, had disembowelled one of his dinosaurs in the hall - catnip everywhere!  Naturally, he said it wasn't his fault - he was just patting it to be friendly and it fell apart with shock.  Yeah - right!

Mups

Sounds like you had a lovely day, Tabby.   :upvote:

Thank you, Mups, it was.  Most importantly though - the birthday boy had a good day!
