yes - American - the Springfield armory provided the US army with rifles from the late 18th century up to the present day. Best known were the 1851 (think I have the date right from memory, certainly the early 1850s) rifled musket, which was the principle long arm of the Union forces in the Civil War, the 'trapdoor' 45-70 rifle and 45-55 cavalry carbine, the first metallic cartridge weapon in general use by the US army - the carbine was the weapon Custer's cavalry men carried at the battle of the Little Big Horn, and the 1903 Springfield 30-06 magazine rifle, the second magazine rifle, after the short lived Krag-Jorgensen, and used by the army throughout WW1, ans till in use by the USMC in WW2. The Garand, which replaced the '03 in the Army in WW2 and Korea, was also manufactured in the armory, although not designed in house.
