I'm a big fan of Donald Trump, he puts America and Americans of all colours, first.  How nice it would be if we had such a leader.

Anyway, I've been watching his speech to the Republicans, talk about ramble !  He's an embarrassment, but a shrewd embarrassment.   He's included a few jokes and one liners which had the audience chuckling, but he flits from one topic to the next with ease.  He admits he "weaves" but says as long as he comes back to the topic there's no need to worry.   :yahoo:

p.s. he's still rambling on, modest too
P.p.s. his impression of a trans weightlifter was ace

I don't know what to make of him, I like the way he works for his country but the way he goes about things worries me at times.

I'm in favour of Trumpy.  He is infinitely better than his predecessor, but then who couldn't be.
I still live in hope that he issues some strong orders to TwoTier before he manages to destroy our country.

I mean, he is threatening to annex Greenland, part of NATO?

His current favouring of Putin over Ukraine and threatening to effectively annex Greenland threatens to split NATO. Look forward to bigger bills for the military if the US withdraws or gets kicked out.

What anybody here or the Europeans fearing the Russians may take a fancy to their territory if Trump forces Ukraine into surrendering theirs think is of no importance  - it's what Americans think that matters and it seems they aren't maybe as keen on him as they were.

His recent adventure in Venezuela and the Greenland threats are directly opposed to the isolationist MAGA wing of the Republicans' beliefs too and they made him President.

He seems to be upsetting an awful lot of people wherever they come from and what their political outlook is. Unfortunately the Venezuela thing annoyed folks with nukes although it's unlikely they'll use them - The Ayatollah is rather busy with what looks lik a civil war in the offing, Xi is more interested in making money and I doubt Putin has been maintaining his so they are more likely to backfire than actually work.

And this really should have gone in politics.

I don't know why he wants to own Greenland.  He already has a third ABM system in Greenland, along with Cape Cleare in Alaska and Fylingdales in Yorkshire.  Perhaps he's a little worried that the Russian ships which sail around Alaska might attack the Greenland ABM system, and would like to set up his own defence forces in the area.  Even so, I suspect that Denmark might not disagree with that as long as they can nominally still consider Greenland their own territory.

I had to google that word, Ruthio.
I do agree though,  and have thought that all along.  :upvote:

Perhaps they should put him and Putin in boxing ring and let them sort themselves out, instead of involving thousands of innocent people in their hunger for power and control.

I think he is the man for the hour. I think I prefer the occasional ramble to a politician who can't speak without a lectern and autocue.

My own theory is that talk about Greenland blindsided everyone. While everyone was looking at Denmark and the North Pole they went into Venezuela to arrest a criminal wanted in the United States. Mr Maduro was indicted by a grand jury on some very serious charges.

We seem to have survived sanity to live in interesting times.

Mind you Trump faced lots of charges too.
I read that initially they offered to lift sanctions if he'd let the yanks drill there for oil. He turned that down.

This clearly couldn't possibly have anything to do with Venezuela having the biggest oil reserves in the world. Could it  :?:

I saw a graph the other day showing that the US produced more oil than Saudi Arabia.  I'm sure that they can produce at least all that they need, so personally I don't think that Trump is trying to take Venezuela for oil.

As for Greenland, I have already explained that a serious part of the American defence organisation relies on an establishment in Greenland.  I have since heard that the ice areas are reducing in size which, I assume, permits foreign (and it appears Chinese) warships to venture ever closer.  Trump is naturally concerned about this.
