Quote from: JBR on Yesterday at 09:22:38 PMI'm afraid I have no idea why Farage could be called 'slimy'.  I find him to be down to earth and willing to speak his mind.  He also provides a possible solution, perhaps the only solution, to this country's desperate dive into the third-world.

Your not a woman, most of us can spot a slime bag when we see him.

Since the historic main parties seem hell bent to take us down several
layers into the inferno, I'm not sure what other alternative there is.

I hate to bring up the situation and subsequent actions of around a century ago, buuuuuuut, the weakness of the presiding governments of the time created the inevitable and inexorable beast.

If "we" end up going along an equivalent tragic route, then the idiocy of the Lab/Con pact of pathetic-ness are equally to blame.

After all, the lib/dem/con alliance are culpable for the rise of extreme nationalism.  A century later , we are seeing the same,

There's no doubt that Farage loves to promote himself and his views. He also takes every opportunity to enrich himself.

Two things about that.
The first is well he is a politician these days and has been for a long time so why wouldn't he.
The second is who wouldn't if they had the opportunity.

Oh - and a third - if he wasn't the way he is Reform would be an also ran party and not topping the polls and we would certainly be stuck with the current failed two main parties with the possibly even worse Lib Dems the only party with any chance at all of breaking their stranglehold.

No Reform candidate here last time.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

I suspect there'll be one next time round GM.

As I said earlier.. I am not a fan of Farage..
Slimy !!!! Certainly not...
I will vote Reform... and hope they do well...

I think Reform are topping the polls because the two (major) parties have proved themselves to be unreliable...
The government we have at the moment are.. Greedy... Promise breakers...
Disliked by the pensioners... Lovers of a mixed United Kingdom... WEAK...
They are good at U-turns.... That's about it..
The Tories can't boast about anything... They didn't do a great job.. Their leaders were dropping like flies.. Boris was an arrogant liar..
They couldn't organise a piss-up at a brewery..
*Correction* They could organise a piss-up at a brewery...

wonderful  U-turners
They
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Dextrous63

They could indeed organise the aforementioned piss-up, and get the tax payer to pay for it via a hospitality allowance.

Can't remember where, but in a Reeves related thread and referring to to forthcoming tax hikes, I said...A fool and their ( ie the taxpayers') money are soon parted.

I really don't understand why some people, ordinary British people, distrust Nigel Farage.  He is certainly not 'slimy', and in my opinion, speaks clearly and honestly about our ensuing serious problems and that he and his party intend to overcome and reverse them.
Personally, I find him very believable and trustworthy.  I sincerely hope that Reform are given the chance to try to rescue what is left of the country in 2029.

When we consider politicians enriching themselves we should possibly consider that they do not usually have access to a company pension scheme, whilst having the same need to provide for their old age and dependents as the rest of us.

In any case we should look for the politician that will do something for us, or something we believe in, when they have the opportunity, rather than which school they were sent to or what car they drive.

I think Reforms popularity goes rather beyond the failings of the big two. They have both been pretty crap for the whole of this century although Blair smarmed his way on while Brown concealed the profligacy many didn't see the problem til Brown got the top job. Despite being crap the big two  still took turns. Labour even got elected just 18 months ago despite every socialist government in my lifetime sodding up the economy. The party of protest was the Lib Dems.

Farage was on the Brexit trail throughout most of that and was elected to the EU parliament. He was the real force behind us leaving. That done he turned his attention to Westminster. He had to put that aside and gift Boris a big majority to get Brexit actually over the line.

Then as soon as Farage really got into Westminster mood Reform started their meteoric rise. Does anybody really think that would have happened without him?
