Will Hovis and Warburton have to change the name of their products in case the mere sound of it causes someone to pass out or have an apoplectic fit?

Will the Bible need to be rewritten.  There's a few things that Jesus did with these flour based items.  Can't even refer to them using the other word, since it could be misconstrued as "loathes", which is clearly hate speech.

Why is 'nutter' offensive?

In all seriousness, I can foresee exactly that, especially in Londonistan.  The country is changing, in some ways beyond recognition.  Perhaps we should compare the UK to other western democracies which are considered to have the right of free speech.  Compare specific words or meanings being spoken in, say, the Netherlands, Germany or Italy, to those words spoken in Britain.  I can't believe that we are now losing the right of free speech.

I had chucked the paper away now Ruthio,  so looked it up for you.
Here ya go:

Yes, the word "nutter" is considered offensive, especially when used in relation to mental health, as it is seen as derogatory and harmful. Recent legal rulings in the UK have confirmed that calling a colleague a "nutter" can be considered harassment in the workplace.

Dextrous63

As I don't work in the same place as those who made the legal ruling, it won't be harassment if I call them a bunch of nutters.

JBR

At the present time in Broken Britain, it seems that any word which any person finds offensive is considered illegal to publish.  So we now have 'nutters', 'idiots' (I was deleted for that), etc.
I'm going to try another to see whether it is banned: PRATS

Agreed.

It's a funny word that.  I think spending much of my career surrounded by pritt sticks (and their cheaper YPO equivalents) makes me automatically spell it as Pratts.

I'd be interested to see what words are automatically censored out by the forum software.  Klondy, is there a list somewhere or any chance you turning on the filter for a day so we can try some out?

Ruthio

I'm always saying that if it weren't for my amazing kids and their help I'd be in a funny farm by now.
Should I go to prison? Again!

Didn't know you kept goats, yet alone conversed with them? 😬😬

The profanity filter has to be built by the forum owner. There isn't anything at all in the one here as I consider it to be a waste of time.

There are a number of letters in the Cyrillic alphabet that look identical to those in ours but words containing one our more will not trigger censorship unless they have been added. I found it quite amusing to post about the Cock Inn on the mothership as cock was in the profanity filter there. I claimed to be a trustee so was allowed to.

Dextrous63

Ah.  Thought there might be a default list. Thanks anyway.

No need to go to the trouble of locating an example of the Cyrillic alphabet.
An even easier method of overcoming such filters is simply to leave a space between two letters, or deleting one letter, in the 'offensive' word, thus providing two nonsensical words!
Bol locks, Fck, etc.

Perhaps it would be fun if we all contribute to an exemplary list?

The point is those don't look like proper words. Using the Cyrillic letters make them indistinguishable from the word using the normal alphabet. The usual get around you see used are just replacing a vowel with an * or @  etc which merely draws attention to the use of a forbidden word.
