We didn't come across a river.  We came on one of those metal birds, which have recently been invented, from Saudi Arabia.  When we have visited Manchester, we sailed across the Mersey coming home.  'Manchester' airport, of course, is in Cheshire.

Quote from: Dextrous63 on October 09, 2025, 01:07:45 PMIs Saudi Arabia twinned with Bradford?
Certainly not.  Saudi Arabia has laws and consequences to their being broken.
Bradford, like other similar UK cities, is a free-for-all for certain people.

Maybe Bradford is what Saudi aspires to becoming. 😬

I was born in Lancashire but it has since become Cheshire .
They always seem to be changing the names of the areas there .
Now I believe it may be called Merseyside .

No it doesn't.  Marge and I have worked there.  They are very particular who can enter their country, apart from the religious activities in Mecca, and no non-muslims are allowed into that area.
That is tantamount to Rome not permitting any non-Christians entry.

Yes.  Liverpool and Manchester ARE both still in Lancashire (in my view), just as Sheffield, Leeds and Hull are still in Yorkshire.  Birmingham is still in Warwickshire too.

OK, I agree with cities having their own councils and other bodies, but why do they think it necessary to change the names and borders of historic counties and our maps to amplify that?  No, it isn't a postal necessity, as all locations now have postcodes.
