Phones going Digital

Thanks for all your answers,  but I haven't a clue what you mean because I haven't got a technical brain cell in my bonce!    I thought it would be much simpler.

All I know is, there is a box next to the pavement and a cable of some sort goes from that, and under my flowerbed  (I am always scared I will chop it in half when I dig the soil over),  and the cable then goes around the edge of my front garden dividing wall and into another box on the front wall of my bungalow.
My electric meter is also on that front outside wall too,  but the Virgin cable wouldn't be anything to do with that box . . .   would it?

There is also a telegraph post outside next door's house, and one of those wires comes to the front of my house too.   that's all I can tell you really.

Not to worry,  if there is a power cut and I lose connections,  so be it.  There's not much I could do about it anyway.

Simplest way of checking (I'd imagine) whether your digital or not is to unplug your Virgin modem.  If your phone works, then you're not.

I'll try that in a mo,  and come back to you -  unless it buggers this computer up, so I can't reply!

I'll avoid the obvious "bonus prize" comment 😊

You off to the vet soon?  All the best with that. 😊

Thanks Dex,  but my friend took us to the vet at 8.30 this morning.
I am waiting for the phone call so I can bring her back home.

If I could abolish one word from the English language, it would be digital.

They never take phone lines down. That was probably there before VM was installed.

Like I said I have VM cables for internet/TV although I never took their TV and their phone although I never used that either. Plus Fibre from Openreach and City Fibre and the old Openreach telephone wire which hasn't been used for at least 10 years and probably more. Only one is working and currently that is the City Fibre one. What will be working in eighteen months time depends on were I can get the best deal when the current contract is up.

I did it, Dex.   I wasn't sure which to unplug though, as there are two plugs.

One just switches the plug at the wall off,  which Virgin told me to do every so often to allow them to do updates, but the other one is what that engineer fitted and is not a normal 3-pin plug,  its a white pointy thing,  which seemed to turn everything off -  including my landline.   The phone screen kept saying there was a fault on the line and to try later.

When I plugged it back in,  after a couple of minutes my phone worked fine again.  So I think I have my answer now.    Thanks for that.   :upvote:

Dextrous63

No idea what the white pointy thing is, but it matters not as you have your answer 😊👍

I have to say, Mups, that your language is not what one would expect from a polite young lady.
Numquam credere Gallicum

That's very polite compared to how many address their errant computers.

Dextrous63

Fortunately, if we look at the criteria "polite young lady", ........

😬😬😬

Oh dear . . .  have I a got to stay in and write a hundred lines now?

No.  You don't satisfy the criteria.

Quips aside - how did it go at the vet?  Was it a blood test?  If so, did they shave some fur off to help locate a vein, 'cos that's what they did with my cat.

Mups

Dex,  re the Vet,  Gertie had to have a special blood test to see if there was Cushings Disease.
They take blood from her neck,  then after an hour or so they inject her with Cortisol,  then a couple of hours after that they re-test the result to see if the hormone changed the previous result.  This is why I had to leave her there for a few hours.

She also had a tummy scan to check whether she had any kidney/bladder stones before she came home too.

Her neck was shaved just a small patch, as was her tummy.   I washed her when she got home as she still had a bit of the gell  on her tummy from the scan.

The nurse told me the vet would ring me this evening with the results,  but she hasn't,  so I expect she was either still operating,  or the results weren't finished yet.

I will ring them in the morning to find out.   In the meantime  I am hoping no news is good news ey.
