Charlie Kirk was assassinated by a professional, someone who didn't like his politics.  They're now trying to blame this on Israel

I heard an ex military sniper analyse the events.  There were some clear discrepancies regarding whether this was a professional assassination, the main one being that from 100-200 yards, a pro wouldn't have aimed at the neck, nor would they have missed what they were aiming for.

Scrumpy

Doubt the shooter was a professional, the range from shooter to target was approx 200 yards, downhill with a slight wind. The target was hit in the neck, rather than a head or centre of mass. It seems shooter did not allow for bullet drop or the angle involved An average shooter could  have achieved the same shot.

There's also the question of why it was shot from outside with the possibly deliberate noise reverberations which a suppressor and/or from inside a building would have limited.

It was a shooters paradise, buildings around the event, on the campus, lots of escape routes, wooded areas in reach, no heavy police or security presence a straight line of sight with no obstructions.

Which kinda brings up another point.  I've got no idea how big Kirk's own private security detail was, but there were only 6 police officers on site.  This suggests that they weren't expecting any real trouble from the 2000-3000 spectators which (imho) kinda contradicts the general view that everyone hated Kirk and his views.

Not a very pleasant character apparently he was quoted as saying that he would rather see his daughter (s) die rather than have an abortion....

Private security is bloody expensive, I had  two acquaintances based  in Dallas who worked private details. One was the personal minder of a billionaire for around 8 years, ex-cop, ex-reserve SF, he was on around £150K with a BFO ( big F off ) SUV thrown in. The other was an ex- SF who was the team leader for the team of a billionaires wife, he was on £200k + a year.  Then  add on travel, accommodation, feeding, etc. It wasn't cheap even back in them days.  Must cost an arm and a leg now.
Kirk was a private citizen so wouldn't have the wherewithal for 24/7 cover. 6 cops on a campus? Sounds about right for a day shift.

I think that if a sniper wants to kill you he will no matter what security precautions you take .
This  man was not a politician .
Just someone who believed in free speech.
Isn't that what American stands for ?

Although I didn't agree with some of his extreme pro life views, they fitted his Christian beliefs, and as such he was entitled to them.  There are other religious extremes that treat women far worse!

I feel so sad for his small children and his wife. I hope they catch the shooter, and in the USA he won't get a soft sentence.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

IIRC, it was the Governer of Utah who said in the press conference that Utah still used capital punishment.  Although it'll be down to the judge to decide, I suspect the wait on death row won't be long.

The killer has been arrested his own father convinced him to give himself up .

22 year old.  Most likely soon to be executed.  All that wisdom, knowledge, learning etc all for nothing.

Not sure about that, Muddy.
The link said otherwise:

The sources added that the 22-year-old had confessed to his father, who urged him to turn himself in.
After the suspect said he would rather commit suicide than surrender, the father called a youth pastor who is a family friend.
The father and the pastor tried to calm down the suspect. The pastor, who also serves as a court security officer, called the US Marshals, who detained the suspect.
