I admit its not been much fun  lately, Scrumps.
Why do things always seem to come along in bundles!

I can't be thinking about the neighbour's rust bucket here at the mo,  I need to get my own car sorted first.  I am just glad I wasn't hurt.

I have just rung my insurance company, and they were very helpful.
They are arranging to take mine away for repair, and will bring me another one to use in the meantime and I can keep my protected no claims bonus too.  He said it won't cost me anything.
I just hope the details the other driver gave me were the truth.

I hope they sort things out quite quickly, because I need it back in time to take it in for its MOT later this month.

My son is away in Portugal at the mo, so he can't help.  It's their 1st Wedding Anniversary so they have gone away to the sun and sea to celebrate.

Scrumpy

Don't worry Mups.. you will be fine..
I am sure you will get your car back in time for MOT..
And even if you don't... I'm sure the law will not be watching and waiting for you ..
 Enjoy your (different) motor..
It might be well posh.... 😊
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Mups - just realised you must have escaped the write off trap - your insurer hasn't gone for a knock for knock agreement so they aren't footing a bill and I don't think the third party can just write your car off because the repair costs exceed the book value. I'm assuming it's an older car but I don't think you ever said it was that was our other lady drivers here who did. Garage bills are stupid these days.

Mups

Klondike,  they said they were going to get it taken away for mending,  and the garage would give me two days notice of when they were coming.
Once I know which day,  I have got to ring the car-lending firm and let them know, so that they can arrange when to bring me another car.

My insurers said they will claim everything back from the idiot driver's insurance, so it won't cost me anything.
They said I will keep my protected no claims too.

I thought that all sounded very good.  What do you think?

All sounds good Mups.  Suppose there's still a chance that the garage will deem your car a write off.  Hopefully not though.

Sorry, I forgot to answer your question.   My car is a 2014 Reg.
It's  done somewhere between 34 -  35,000 miles,  so not much really, considering the age.

I am trying to  think positive though, Dex.

Sounds to me like you have a good insurer.

Garages don't deem anything a write off. They give an estimate for the repair cost. They may say that they can't repair it. The insurer then decides what to do. I'm not at all sure that a third party insurer is able to declare that the repair cost exceeds the trade value of the vehicle. Obviously your own insurer can and frequently they do. Which is why GAP insurance exists

Ours is a 2008, around 42,000. We don't go far these days! We have a good local mechanic who keeps it roadworthy, and as we don't have off street parking,  we wouldn't want an expensive motor on the street.

Glad that your insurance are so helpful Mups, cos as you say, things come in bundles.  Don't let them get you down!
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

Unless some major damage done to the subframe, which one would imagine unlikely given that it happened in a car park, I'd imagine that neither the age of the car nor the extent of damage would be significant enough to write it off.  Hopefully just a body shop repair with, at worse a new wing.

I agree... Just a facial injury.. Seeing that it was in a car park..
My 23year old has just been in to have repair work done..
She is as good as new ..
Don't worry Mups... All will be fine..

You'd certainly hope so but a 11 year old vehicle has a much lower book price than its value to the owner and the price of replacing and respraying a wing is high. That's why you see so many badly scuffed up old cars around - the insurance company was avoided.

My old motor.. Peugeot 206LX with very low mileage is not just scrap value.. She is worth a few bob..  I was surprised when I checked it out..
A few months back a bloke asked if I wanted to sell it..

I think.. at my age .. If I can get my car repaired .. I would..
So much cheaper than buying something new , or something secondhand that you know nothing about..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

That's how I feel too, Scrumpy.
I wouldn't  want some new fangled thing with a million useless gadgets on it, anyway.

Don't suppose you've got a piccie of the damage, Mups?

Yes I have, Dex,  but like I just said, I don't know how to upload (or is it download?)  it from a phone.
I ought to perhaps look on Youtube or somewhere, for a demo . .
