We have had an absolute plague of the wretched things, so in desperation installed fly papers throughout the house. I know they are revolting, but they are effective. The first full day of deployment was Wednesday and we trapped 51 of the wretched things and the house is now fly free, so we are taking the papers down - but have reserves available, just in case!

I agree, the damn things seem to have bred well this summer, perhaps they like the heat.

They are so annoying zooming about when I'm indoors, or crawling up the windows inside,  so out comes my brilliant FlyCatcher.  Wouldn't be without it.

It's wasps I really fear though.

I like my back door to the garden open during the day,  but have hung length of net curtain over it now,  which helps keep a lot of 'em out, too.

I went to my Chiropractor yesterday, then stopped off at the garden centre and had a spot of lunch on the way home.

In their cafe part,  they had the glass doors to the plants propped open, and wasps kept zooming in.
Then I saw a notice stuck on the doors saying something like - "We have a big problem with Wasps this year, please be aware."

It seems a problem all over the place this year.   They must have thrived in the heat this summer.

Your courage paid off. Well done.

It's August it's the wee Harvest Flies. PITA I agree, but they don't last long.
I have the Mesh Door Curtain in the warm months, they are great at keeping the flying beasties out, and I can have the back door open.

I tried that years ago, hanging it on the conservatory door. Trouble was that anything more than a puff of wind and it ended up on the roof

Weird, mine has magnets to hold the flaps together, and extra drawning pins round the edges. It also survived Dageus bouncing through it umpteen times a day, holds up in a strong wind too.

obviously a better piece of kit than was mine
