I was reading in yesterdays paper about behaviour at weddings,  and some are being asked not to say -  "I now pronounce you husband and wife"  anymore.
They are told 'Spouse'  or 'Partner'  will avoid offending anyone.

The traditional terms for a 'married couple'    are no longer acceptable and should be replaced with gender-neutral ones.

They may now say things like -

'You are now partners for life'.  or -

'You may now kiss your spouse'. etc.

Also, Staff running events are being warned not to say  'Welcome ladies and gentlemen.'!!!

Unbelievable, isn't it.

I wonder what dictatorial authority is imposing these 'laws' upon us.
I for one will never give in to such demands... at least until this country is taken over by Russia.

Yeah,  but I suppose what else can a registrar say to a couple of men marrying?  He can't very well say the traditional  'Husband & Wife'  bit,  can he.

If a couple of 'men' marry, they should avoid going to certain countries: Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Brunei, Mauritania or Qatar!

"Legally Paired Chuffers"

"You may now kiss your chuffer"

etc

I haven't been to a wedding for ages..
People seem to be happier just being partners..

I have a church nearby.. I don't seem to hear the bells being rang on a Saturday afternoon anymore celebrating a wedding..
Me and my mate used to walk to the church to see locals getting married...  as did many people..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Weddings seem to be very expensive these days and given the price of housing I suspect many are choosing to build a deposit rather than blow a fortune on one. Considering few last more than a few years too these days it's a bit of a waste.

I'm always the romantic

Personally,  I feel that a traditional wedding as we've always known it,  should stay between a man and woman.
It has always been that way,  and should stay that way.

However,  I don't doubt the sincerity of some male or female couples,  but if they really want to 'marry'  and  spend their lives together, I think a different, but meaningful service for this type of wedding should have been devised before now.

I think its wrong to use the heterosexual type of service, and then have to keep changing the words because they are unsuitable.  Why not devise a different kind of wedding in the first place,  which uses more suitable words and phrases for this type of occasion.
Makes more sense to me.

And while I am thinking about this,  what about these weirdo's (usually women) who 'marry'  objects,  like a tree,  or other odd things?  I remember reading about a woman who 'married'  a Ghost!  And one who 'married'  her dog!
Why is this even allowed?   It just makes a mockery of something precious and meaningful surely.
