There's a snag. The Montevideo convention of 1933 lays out the criteria for a "state" to be recognised, and the area known as Palestine does not meet all of them.

I confess that I don't really know why. Perhaps he likes what's going on in Gaza and thinks a similar situation here might be entertaining.
