Blimey,  they keep on about whether older drivers should still be behind the wheel,  but here is an 84 year old man  still driving his light aircraft!

Pilot error ended up with the plane crashing and flipping over on landing. It can't be mended now, apparently.

The plane was severely damaged in the crash, rendering it irreparable. Skydive Swansea, which was also operating from the airport that day, lent a hand at the scene and utilised its vehicle to transport the wrecked aircraft back to its hangar post-crash.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has initiated an inquiry into the incident.

The pilot, an 84 year old bloke, and his passenger, a 78 year old woman, were swiftly taken to Morriston Hospital in Swansea by the Welsh Ambulance Service, but fortunately, they did not suffer any severe injuries.

"Neither the pilot, an 84-year-old man from Sketty, or the passenger, a 78-year-old woman from Reading, Berkshire, have sustained any serious injuries.
The cause of the crash is believed to be pilot error.
No concerns were raised regarding the pilot's fitness to fly."

Is there any age limit for Pilots,  or do they have to have sight tests etc,   to renew their licences?

I'm pretty sure they have to take medicals. My son has a private pilots licence as he was very keen years back. He doesn't fly so often now but they do have to put in a certain number of hours for the licence to remain valid or do refreshers before taking to the air again solo if they didn't.

Everything to do with aviation, even private licences, is very strictly regulated. I imagine that if they aren't taking his licence away he is certainly fit to fly. Bit like having a minor car accident in fact. The write off is not surprising. That two old people were able to walk away from it is.

Did you know that David Lammy is a qualified pilot?

We used to fly paper aircraft when we were kids..
I couldn't get my head around it.. Some of the kids, mainly the boys, made some great
aircraft.. They would shoot them in the air like a javelin.. and the hand made plane would sour
high into the air....
Just sayin'... sorry to go off topic..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I remember my brother making those paper planes too, Scrumps.
We didn't stare at computer screens all day back then, did we.
