After us discussing about the Government pushing electric cars on us,  it looks like they're at it again - with our heating systems.

I saw today that Ed Milliband wants to whack higher taxes on homes with Gas boilers, now!
Others are saying these plans would hit the poorest people the hardest  (as usual).

Milliband is said to be thinking about stripping green taxes from electricity bills to encourage us to buy those expensive heat pumps.
If this plan goes ahead,  it is said the costs would then be passed on to gas customers,  which will send boiler running costs soaring.

Mr.  O'Shea, who is chief of 'Centrica'  has called the idea 'Preposterous', and says   'it would cause a terrible distortion  of the market.'
He also says - ' The idea that you'd put the levies on gas bills will mean better-off people with heat pumps will be subsidised by those who are poorer with gas boilers.   That is nonsense.'

'Experts'  have warned that shifting taxes from electricity to gas would drive up average gas bills by £120  a year.

I admit I don't understand all of this yet,  but what does worry me is is this going to be an even more expensive winter for many of us?

I nearly got one. When they pinched my winter fuel I noticed they were giving £7,500 non means tested subsidies and my boiler was obsolete. Turned out my house wasn't suitable to have one fitted - far too much extra work needed for one to be viable. I got a new boiler instead but sadly no subsidy for them.

There are grants for various insulations which I also explored but to no avail. Loft insulation already up to full modern standards from when I had the place modernised. Built around 1900 with solid walls so cavity insulation is out. Had I been on pension credit I think I could have had free external insulation but I'm not and it makes little financial sense having it fitted as it is so expensive and saves so little.

All kinda missing the point.

If we could raise the earth's temperature sufficiently enough, we wouldn't need to heat our houses.

Wait a million years or so and it will happen again
Thank you for the days, the days you gave me

Wait a few billion and it will melt

No need to.  Islam will soon take over the planet, everyone else will be massacred as per allah's will and things will be as they were ever meant to be.  No idea who out Islamic brethren will turn on then, but it won't be our problem.

There are two main factions so that will take care of that.

They named themselves after that 60s married singing duo i think

Sonny and Cher

They fought each other too.

Ah, the old favourite.. I got you Abe(raham)

klondike

Apparently he was a real shite despite being named Sonny

Aah,  but then we'd have to all fork out for Air-Con instead.

Or get some dinghies and head up north.

Mups

Which would be cheaper to install -  Air Con,  or Heat pump?

klondike

Depends how big I suppose. Both essentially the same thing but heat pumps still tend to use radiators. I remember that Cassandra was a fan of air con units and he said they could be run in reverse in winter I think.

That's really strange how you should say his name tonight,  because I have been thinking about him since yesterday and wondering if he is OK or not,  but couldn't remember his name to ask anyone.

He used to love his donkeys and other animals didn't he.   I know he wasn't well though and had a bad health scare,  and we don't hear from him anymore.   Have you heard anything?
