So, in the hope that they will be fooled enough to vote for them, Labour intends to give the vote to 16 and 17 year olds for the next GE
Personally, I would RAISE the age. 60:seems good!

I fully agree.  I believe that Labour are becoming desperate, having no doubt read newspapers' and others' comments about their future.  Most are suggesting the likelihood of Labour not forming a government for many more years after 2029, due to their having turned so many voting people against them.

Joking apart, I agree that if the voting age was raised to, say 30, the electorate would be far more sensible and knowledgeable in their choice of the next government.

I have also suggested, without any sense of humour, that a desperate Labour party might well attempt to permit many of our 'new visitors' to gain the right to vote before the next general election.

That thought had passed my mind too, JB.

There are already MPs elected on an Islamist ticket and any young ones especially female young ones will have postal votes completed by their "community representatives".

I'm not sure who my community representative actually is but assume I must have one.

My 60 suggestion was tongue in cheek, but frankly I am appalled, but not surprised by Labour, and finding a way to let immigrants vote is probably their  next bright idea

Scotland's been letting 16/17 year old vote for 10 years now, I think Wales has too.

In GE's?

That'll be for their National assemblies. Whitehall sets the rules for general elections.

But not in GEs. Why should youngsters who contribute nothing to the economy, indeed, are a drain on it, get the opportunity to outweigh those who do. And on a side issue, I would like to see the vote restricted to economic contributers, but realise I am howling at the moon

That's harking back a very long time. For me British citizens over 18 is OK. That doesn't include those with only indefinite leave to remain and I don't think they are included now but it is possible that their offspring are if they are born here.

I read somewhere that Harold Wilson lowered the voting age to 18 and lost the next election to Ted Heath, haven't time to verify that mind !  The thing is, 16 year olds can't buy alcohol in a pub, they can't sit on a jury, can't drive until they're 17, can't work a night shift YET they'll be given the chance to vote on who becomes our PM.

I'm afraid that the more I hear about this side of politics, the more I am glad that I am the age I am.  Sadly, Marge is nine years younger than me, so I do worry a little about her future.
I do worry about what more damage Labour can do if they remain in office for another four years.

On a separate subject, I came across a web-site showing all locations of illegal immigrant hotels throughout the country:  https://howfarfrommydoorstep.co.uk/

There seems to be a hell of a lot of them already.

Just a warning folks. If you go on that site and put in your postcode don't have a heart attack - one of those pins shown is your own postcode. My heart is still fluttering....

Either Google maps hasn't been updated to show it's not closed or the info given is incorrect. It across the town from me so I won't be checking up in person but as it's also still showing on Booking.com I reckon the info is duff
