I have just learned that experts are saying  Flying Ant Day will see millions of ants with wings take to the skies..
Because of our hot dry weather this year will see some of the biggest swarms..
I don't know when this day is or whether it is the same time each year..

Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

The only flying ants I ever see, always herald a storm.

You know when it usually goes very quiet and still before a storm, that's when I always see the flying ants arriving.

I wonder where they go the rest of the time?  :hmm:

Under my greenhouse is where the buggers go, millions of them.
Every summer they suddenly erupt from under it, usually when we're out are the table having lunch. We have to grab everything and get indoors fast.
Run and shut all the windows and the outside doors, the place goes black with them as they swarm around. It can take anything up to an hour for them to leave.

Around here, they are feast or famine. Not seen any for the last couple of years, but a few years back they were swarming
Thank you for the days, the days you gave me

They go for it when conditions are right. I think they used to use a calendar but the battery went flat

I seen it happen a few times over the years when the pavements are thick with them. Huge numbers all over the local area at the very least and maybe further I suppose.

I remember a monster swarm of ladybirds coming in over the sea once in Hunstanton. The store keepers on the front were sweeping huge piles of them out from their doorways and up against the walls. Never seen anything like it although I did see smaller numbers once.

For the ants I think it's gene spreading time. Not sure about the ladybirds.
