I have an I-phone 5s. Yesterday it was fine. Today it will make calls, but anyone phoning me gets 'your call cannot be taken, please leave message' and there is no ring tone. I have checked that I have not accidently switched it into silent mode (and it doesn't vibrate) and as far as I can understand it, the 'do not disturb' facility is not enabled. The handset is just over two years old. My contract is 8 years old - the battery in the previous handset died. Any ideas, please?

Have you tried switching it off for a few minutes Mike  ?

Lots of suggestions via Google.

Yes, I did try some of them, probably my incompetence, but no joy

I'm thinking of putting a laptop on eBay. Symptoms it won't power up. There are hundreds of fixes out there so I think I should be able to flog it. Of course I've tried them all and more besides. Working one day then just refused to power up the next.

All I will say is that an iPhone 5S seems to be very long in the tooth so I doubt it owes you anything. I can't make any guesses myself as I have always avoided Apple kit as I don't like the way everything is locked down.

I didn't know that old models were still sold. I'm guessing a trip to an Apple store is going to be needed then  although you did mention a contract so maybe the contract provoder will fix or replace it or perhaps steer you through the process of getting it going again. I just buy phones and use SIM only contracts so don't know how phone contracts work. It is, of course, possible that the SIM itself is to blame.

Michael Rolls

Don't believe it! It's working again! Haven't done anything to it. Gremlins?

I saw one when I was looking that mentioned a local cell problem so maybe that was it. Most seemed to be aeroplane mode and do not disturb which you said you'd checked.
