I was standing under the arches at the end of Regent St. London, watching the VE parade. with memories of the war etched in my young brain. Still etched in my old brain now.

Wow!  I wasn't even a twinkle in my dad's eye.  I was born the year after.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

Neither was I, Granny.
So I wasn't there on VE day 1945 either.

JBR

I was not in existence.  Being born seven years after that date, I suspect that I wasn't even a twinkle in my dad's eyes.

Me too, my Mum and Dad were married 10 years before they had me, so I wasn't even a twinkle in his eye.

I find it a welcome relief that there are still some of us youngsters in the forum who, I hope, can keep it alive for a long time.
Interestingly, I wonder who our youngest member actually is.
As far as I know there is no minimum age for membership, other than it is supposed to be a pensioners' forum.

Who is now going to claim that they are our youngest member?

I'll start the ball rolling.  I shall be 73 on 3 August this year.  Surely there is someone younger.

I'm going to suggest that 1955vintage beats you. Just a hunch

It does, by three years.  I wonder whether any even younger will admit to it.
Come on ladies, but please be honest!  😉

Well it appears from the above responses that Klon is our youngest member at 70.

To be honest, I'm surprised that there are no younger people on here, not even in their 60s, and I became a pensioner at 60 (although that was a works pension).

Of course, I expect that the ladies on here are not going to admit their ages.  Most women don't, though it is nothing to be ashamed of.

I never said that. Read my post again. I'm 75. 1955Vintage is a poster here. Not a frequent poster admittedly but does still visit.

You said 1955 vintage, and I assumed that you were born in 1955.  That would make you three years younger than me, born in 1952, which would be 69 or 70.

How did I go wrong?

EDIT:
My apologies.  I now realise that '1955 Vintage' is another member, though I don't remember ever seeing him/her.

Not at all, JBR.    I don't mind telling you I am 21 again.

I was seven. We lived in Cambridge somewhere - not the actual city. I was in the kitchen looking out the window as a couple of cyclists went by and mum came in and said that the war was over. Couldn't believe it - all my young memories were of the war - spending nights in shelters, picking up shrapnel in the streets, etc.
Thank you for the days, the days you gave me
