Council Tax Question

I have a question about council tax bills.
My local council sends out bills with no mention of any lawful authority to demand a tax.
Do any of you get a council tax bill with some lawful authority, such as an act of Parliament, mentioned on it?
I've checked mine and the legal name if the council isn't even on it.
Are they simply demanding money with menaces?

I found this (albeit on a Rochdale website, but the refs will be the same)

It may not be mentioned but the legislation allowing them to extort your money is the Local Government Finance Act 1992 according to Google at least.

Now I'm sure in that act there must be some sort of definition of a council and maybe even how a body becomes your legal council by means of local elections and maybe even some specifications of how the charge should be presented and collected. Any loopholes you feel you have need to be checked by your legal representative though including whether such a council is still legally recognised when elections have been cancelled.

Good luck with your protest. Get your friends to post up the address for any cakes hiding files to be sent should you get incarcerated by the (possibly) illegitimate courts and we will do our best for you.

I have asked them why they do not cite the relevant act of Parliament on their tax demands. No doubt it makes no difference to the validity of the demand, nevertheless I want to know why they do not quote it. It makes me think they are not actually complying with the law, and as mentioned, they don't even say who they are, apart from a fancy logo and a name, no name of the CEO or finance officer, no address of the town hall or finance office. I'm  not protesting about the tax although there's a lot there to protest about.

I just wondered if it was common practice not to cite the legal basis for demanding what is quite a large sum which has at least provided our councillors with heated lavatory seats.

Logo and phone number on mine but that's about it. I do it by DD anyway so it would still get extracted from my bank account if they sent nothing at all. It might be a copper or two less if they didn't stuff all the other crap in with it which I don't even look at.

TBH I'm more annoyed by bloody TV licensing with their constant letters saying I'm breaking the law for not telling them (yet again) I don't need a TV licence so won't be buying one.
