Why do things always go wrong on a bank holiday ?  My Grand-dog was poorly yesterday, the vet is closed until Tuesday morning.  My lad slept downstairs with the dog last night and this morning he has eaten some breakfast (the dog)...He will be going to the vet on Tuesday a.m. to see what's going on with him.

This morning, my shower has given up the ghost !  There's a light on the ceiling with a pulley cord, the light is switched on, but no water comes through the shower.  I've taken off the hose, turned dial on, but no water comes through.  Any ideas ?   I'll probably have to wait until Tuesday to find/get a plumber.   In the meantime it's head over the bath and a plastic jug to wash my hair !

How odd about the shower, Alex.    It's not the water supply is it?  Do other taps in the house work?

Poor doggy,  does he scavenge like one of mine does?   Hope he's better soon.  It costs and arm and a leg  (at least)  to get a vet out of hours, doesn't it.

I do a 24 hr fast on Gertie when she's has a bad tummy to let the tummy rest,   then start her off on plain boiled white fish, or cooked chicken so its lighter on their tums to get going again.

I can't see what the light has got to do with the shower as they'd be on seperate circuits. Best bet is to check the consumer unit to see if the shower circuit has tripped and reset it. If it trips again it's probably time for an electrician assuming it's an electric shower which I'm guessing it is or you wouldn't have mentioned the light. If the shower runs through that light switch it's time to be worried about the installation.

I think Alex is referring to the small light in the ceiling FCU, suggesting that power is getting through to the (electric?) shower.

If it is, then god only knows what electronickery has failed within the unit itself.  Not really a diy job for the uninitiated tbh.

My guess is that it'll work out cheaper to replace the shower unit itself than faff around trying to find the internal fault.

Good heavens!  Your son ate the dog for his breakfast?

(Sorry, but I didn't have time to read your entire comment as I'm in a rush.)

Why are you in a rush?  Are you re-enacting Moses being found in a reed bed?

Quite correct, this is what I have always done with any if my dogs over the years.  :upvote:
I also give a big tablespoon of plain Bio Yoghurt before bed, it settles the tummy.

I thought the milk from other species wasn't actually good for cats and dogs.🤷🏻♂️

The ceiling pull cord switch will most likely be be a 45amp double pole unit & they are prone to neutral failures so the indicator light may still work, depending on the type, but 230 volts isn't going to the shower.

The ceiling switch replacement is a £15 5 minute job that your son should be able to do after he's checked the voltage at the output side of the switch.

That's the first thing to check, if the switch is ok then it's most likely to be the solenoid in the shower that's failed if there's no water.

Moses was found in a reed bed?  Who found him?

Ah I've never seen showers operated with a pull switch as they usually have a 30 or 40 amp circuit or at least all those I've had did. All mine had a switch outside the room.

That makes more sense.

Thanks for the input, yes it's a little box on the ceiling with a pull down cord which is still lit up.  I'm going to try to find a plumber this morning.   The shower box is quite old now so I guess it's time for a new one. :upvote: Thanks boys !

I do hope that your son's dog is feeling much better today...

That sounds the same as mine, Alex.   Well that's the power to the show I suppose.  The shower itself is push-button.

Good luck with getting it fixed,  I bet that will cost a bit over an Easter weekend.

I couldn't do without my shower because there is no bath here.  I think the old lady that used to live here when I bought it,  was in a wheelchair,  so probably couldn't manage a bath and had it taken out.  It is just like a small wet room now.

Was going to suggest going to a swimming pool as there are showers there.

Then I remembered going to a public baths when I was a kid and our bath was out of commission.  A building with a load of bathroom cubicles in them.  Anyone else remember them?
