How long has it been without rain up there?  Seems to have dried out pretty quickly for it to catch fire.

Not taken by me, my pal Janice sent me them.

Alex

There have been fires in Greater Manchester area and Peak District, it's a busy period for GMFRS with this hot, dry weather.  People starting BBQs are being blamed for most of the fires according to MEN.

I had no idea it'd been so dry for so long.  Such a shame.

Any idea how long it'll take for the area to recover and regrow?   Years I guess?🤷🏻♂️

Mups

I heard about this too,  its been on the TV news a couple of times.

I always feel so sorry for the wildlife who suffer.  Even if they survive, their food supplies probably didn't.
I remember all the Koalas burnt in the Ozzy wildfires a while back.

Coincidentally,  we always seem to get more wildfires once the schools break up for the summer. :hmm:

I've never really understood how a bbq can start a wildfire.  If someone could explain to me the scenario, I'd appreciate it.

I suppose it just takes one spark Dex but people abandon them, don't soak them in water, they blow over, and start the fire. Then there's the bigger problem of cigarettes. It's tourists 99% of the time, the locals know how to behave.

It beggars belief that anyone over the age of an embryo doesn't realise that leaving something very hot indeed in proximity to something highly flammable is not very wise.

I imagine most fires started by barbeques are going to be those disposable ones. They stay hot for a very long time and probably most aren't going to be extinguished with water as the users likely have none or insufficient to hand.

Ashy

Sounds very likely, whether disposable or not, no one's going to take hot coals home in the car.

I can't read it because of my ad blocker, but I can see what it's about from the title.
This sort of thing is probably not because of people intentionally causing damage, but more likely due to the campers simply being too stupid to think of the potential consequences.
From what I see these days, there seems to be rather a lot of stupid people these days.  Society has changed since ah wer a lad.

Maybe putting a £50 deposit might make the retards take more care.  On the other hand, it'll probably be worse as the dim thickos will use sticks to flick the tray over to get the coals out so they can take the tray with them.

Time to think about an alternate ad blocker. I can read it perfectly with nary an advert in sight.
