My granddaughter Amy phoned a radio station yesterday .. among others..
She was picked to try for the million.. You have to answer the question right to go on to win a million...
I think the radio program was somebody called Matt Wilkinson..
Amy lives in Lincoln..
The question was..
The group McFly got their name from which film?
Back to the Future or Indiana Jones..
She answered Back to the Future.. She got it right and won 5,000 pounds..
She was then asked whether she wanted to carry on or take the money..
She chose to take the money..
She sent me a text it read..
'Nanny I only popped back home to make some lunch'.. and I won 5,000.'
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Brilliant Scrumpy!  👏🏼👏🏼
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

I'm sure you are proud of your granddaughter, Crumply, and rightly so.

Would you have gone for the million..?

She had three people who had decided to go on and try..

I think they had to choose a box number and hope the million was in their chosen box..

Me!!  I would have tried for the million..I would never have a chance at being so close to that sort of money..

Amy was 'over the moon' with 5,000 in her bank..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

No I'd rather have kept the money I already won. I'd have been so scunnered if I'd lost.......And knowing my luck.  :yell:

Alex

I'd have kept the £5,000 and got a newer car

I agree with you, Raven.
Some people can get too greedy and then lose the lot.

Scrumps,  sensible girl your Amy, and well done.

It rather depends on whether £5k would be life changing. If not then £1m would be and taking a punt could be a reasonable choice because that would change the life of the majority for sure even if it was only the glow of being able to pass it on and change the lives of others.

I agree...
It does depend on the position you're in..
I can get my hands on 5,000 but a million!!.. that's another story..
I could help my girls...
I am not a greedy person.. But I wouldn't mind winning the lottery..

I'm not sure I could take the stress in the very unlikely chance that I won. I've read there is more chance of being run down and killed on the way back from the shop you bought the ticket than there is of winning the jackpot. I'm not convinced that is true but there are certainly more road deaths than lottery millionaires each year. I did the lottery regularly for years and must have lost hundreds. I binned it well before they increased the numbers from 49 to whatever it is now. I figured it was just a tax on optimism or stupidity (take your pick). Must be years since I've even got a lucky dip.

I can see your point about one million being life-changing, and if you started out with nothing anyway you may as well have a go.    I still wouldn't say No to an unexpected £5,000 though.

My niece won on the lottery a few years back.. I think it was around 103,000..

They sent a rep out to her home a few days later..
My niece was chatting to the rep ,she mentioned that it must be brilliant visiting winners and seeing their excitement... The rep answered..

'I see many winners... I have two more in this town after I leave here'

The town was Horley ... Just a little place...
And the rep!!!!  One amongst many..
