Portuguese container ship Solong struck US flagged tanker Stena Immaculate while at anchor off the Humber coast.

The British Health and Safety executive published urgent guidance to masters about crew communication on the bridge. (Equivalent to Crew Resource Management in aviation).

Appears the Solong did not maintain a lookout, whilst the Immaculate anchored right in a shipping lane.

There was a fire, considerable damage and danger, and possible loss of life, although the tanker crew is accounted for.

Sounds to me like there should be two less registered masters.

Since the Titanic you'd think this was between very unlikely and impossible.

Apparently the US flagged tanker is used for US military fuel supplies.

Is Captain Francesca Schettino out of prison and up to his old tricks again?

A great channel if you're interested in ships.

Just seen this headline . . .

" A man has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter in connection with the ship collision in the North Sea."

Ashy

I'm not sure who has jurisdiction in this case, at this time I would assume the arrest is whoever was responsible for navigating/maintaining the watch aboard the container ship Solong.

The container ship was carrying dangerous chemicals, whilst the tanker was laden with military jet fuel for the American air force, and it was at anchor waiting to come in and unload.

They have been saying today about the danger to all the sea life now.

The Seals,  Fish, all the Crustaceans,  and the poor Puffins.

That will inevitably put all the  fish trawlermen out of business now too , I'd have thought.

Ashy

Some of the containers were carrying a cyanide preparation which is thought to be highly dangerous. I hope it won't kill all the wild life or indeed the rescuing seamen.

muddy

The captain of the cargo ship has been charged with manslaughter by gross negligence .

Michael Rolls

so someone did die - earlier reports said all were safe, sadly not so
Thank you for the days, the days you gave me

One crew member missing from Solong as MR says above.
Ships being towed for repair and salvage.
Russian master of Solong (flagged in Portugal) arrested as per Muddy above.
