Yesterday I went to a funeral.. It was an old mate of mine..

The sun was shinning ... People were standing in small groups waiting to enter the chapel..
Then all of a sudden there was music playing  ...Land of my Fathers.. The Welsh Anthem..
It was beautiful and so uplifting..
Bill Haley  'Rock around the Clock' was also played inside the chapel..

I do believe that the Welsh Anthem takes some beating to stir the emotions..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I am not familiar with that anthem, Scrumpy,  I'll have to look it up.

By strange coincidence, I also attended a friend's funeral yesterday afternoon too.
As you say,  it was a sunny, beautiful afternoon.

My friend's son was near to tears reading the eulogy,  I felt so sorry for him.
Then his 14 yr old daughter stood up in front of everyone and recited a very movng funeral poem called  - 'Let Me Go.'   She was trying so hard not to sob her heart out and I think the lass was very brave, her Nan would have been proud of her.

The last verse of the poem said  . .

When you are lonely and sick at heart
Go to the friends we know.
Laugh at all the things we used to do
Miss me, but let me go.

The service finished with Cliff Richard's The Millennium Prayer.

All in all,  a sad day,  but full of love also.

I used to love listening to records of Welsh male voice choirs, so am well acquainted with the national anthem.  It is lovely.

My husband's parents were Welsh.
He was always knocking the English... Heaven knows why he married me.. !!

I think the Welsh National Anthem takes some beating..
I also like America the Beautiful.. I know Star Spangled Banner is their Anthem.. but I prefer it ..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

We had the `Let me go` poem read out at my auntie Joan's funeral - very touching indeed.

Yes,  I agree.  Those words are very moving aren't they.

We played Suo Gan the Welsh lullaby at my father's funeral
Then just a few months later at my sons funeral .
They will play it at mine .
